Chatswood Mall
Chatswood Mall (also known as Victoria Avenue Mall) is a pedestrian mall on Victoria Avenue in the Sydney, Australia suburb of Chatswood. It connects the Chatswood Interchange to the Chatswood shopping district and The Concourse. History Retail development in Chatswood started in 1959 on the eastern side of the railway station with the opening of Waltons and Grace Bros (now Myer). The opening of Wallace Way, Lemon Grove and later Chatswood Chase (1983) and Westfield Chatswood (1986) heralded a new era of shopping centres east of the railway line. The section between Victor and Anderson Street was converted into a partial mall in late 1982. In 1989 section between Anderson Street and The Interchange became a full pedestrian mall. Parking was to be provided on the perimeter of the business centre (with the ultimate phasing out of motor vehicles in the CBD over a five-year period). Chatswood Interchange
Chatswood Interchange (also known as The Interchange Chatswood or The Interchange) is a shopping centre in the suburb of Chatswood in the lower North Shore of Sydney and is integrated with the Chatswood railway station and features a Woolworths Metro supermarket, 70 speciality stores, three high-rise office towers and high-rise apartments. Transport The Metro North West and North Shore railway lines offer frequent services to Chatswood station. Chatswood Interchange has bus connections to Sydney CBD, North Shore and Northern Sydney, as well as surrounding suburbs. Chatswood is a major business and residential district in the Lower North Shore of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia, 10 kilometres north of the Sydney central business district. It is the administrative centre of the local government area of the City of Willoughby. It is often colloquially referred to as "Chatty". The Concourse, Chatswood
The Concourse is a cultural centre in the North Shore suburb of Chatswood, which is a 20-minute journey from the Sydney Central Business District. In 2007 the City of Willoughby commissioned new designs to replace the old Chatswood Civic Centre. The first Willoughby Town Hall was built on the site in 1903. The hall doubled as the Council Chambers and the site was shared with the Council Pound, the School of Arts, and the Ku-ring-gai Masonic Lodge. A three-story administration building was also built on the site in 1967 (with a fourth floor added in 1980). In 1972, the original Town Hall was demolished and replaced by a new Civic Centre, comprising the Town Hall which seated 850 people, and the smaller Bailey Hall, which seated 350. Waltons (department Store)
Waltons was an Australian department store chain, founded by John Walton (1904–1998). History Walton bought a menswear store in 1951, located on George Street, Sydney, opposite the Queen Victoria Building and Sydney Town Hall and near Town Hall station. Over the years it was expanded along Park Street with adjoining properties purchased. In 1955, Walton formed an alliance with the American retail giant Sears, Roebuck and Co. In the early 1960s, he started a finance company in partnership with Citibank, and also moved into insurance. That part of the business was sold to Norwich Union in 1980. Grace Bros was an Australian department store chain, founded in 1885. It was bought by Myer (later Coles Myer) in 1983. There were 25 stores across New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory plus a few in Victoria, until they were re-branded under the Myer name in 2004.
