Hooghly district () is one of the districts of the Indian state of West Bengal. It can alternatively be spelt ''Hoogli'' or ''Hugli''. The district is named after the Hooghly River. The Bhagirathi Hooghly River (Anglicized alternatively spelled ''Hoogli'' or ''Hugli'') or the 'Bhāgirathi-Hooghly', called the Ganga or the Kati-Ganga in mythological texts, is the eastern distributary of the Ganges River in West Bengal, India, rising close to Giria in Murshidabad. Barrackpore (also known as Barrackpur) is a city and a municipality of urban Kolkata of North 24 Parganas district in the Indian state of West Bengal. Madhyamik Pariksha or simply Madhyamik ( bn, মাধ্যমিক) is a centralised examination conducted by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (পশ্চিমবঙ্গ মধ্যশিক্ষা পর্ষদ) in West Bengal, India, at the end of the 10th year of school education .
