Bennett is a town in Chatham County, North Carolina, United States. Geography Bennett is located near the southwestern corner of Chatham County and is bordered on its western side by Randolph County. North Carolina Highways 22 and 42 run concurrently just southwest of the center of the town. NC 22 leads north to Ramseur and south to Carthage, while NC 42 leads northwest to Asheboro and east to Sanford. NC 902 meets the two highways just south of Bennett and leads northeast to Pittsboro, the Chatham County seat. Silk Hope, North Carolina
Silk Hope, in Chatham County, North Carolina, United States, is a farm community centered on a school, a volunteer fire department, several country churches, and many historical farmsteads. Some residents who work in Cary, Chapel Hill, and Research Triangle Park have established "country" homes here. According to oral history, the name came from an early 19th-century enterprise to develop a silk industry here. Entrepreneurs imported silk worms and planted mulberry trees, but were not successful. No signs remain of the silk ambitions. Farmers in the area also cultivated cotton in the antebellum years, and used a local cotton gin that once stood at the Silk Hope crossroads. Due to soil limitations, they could not produce much of the commodity crop. Community residents come together each Labor Day to celebrate their heritage at the "Silk Hope Old Fashioned Farmers Day". Geography Goldston is located in southern Chatham County at (35.592478, -79.329615). U.S. Route 421, a four-lane expressway, passes northeast of the town, with access from Exit 159. Siler City is a town in western Chatham County, North Carolina, United States. As of the 2020 census, the town's population was 7,702. History Siler City began when Plikard Dederic Siler and his wife, Elizabeth Hartsoe Siler, settled about four miles north of the town's current location. They had met aboard the ''Two Sisters'', a ship from Germany. The ship landed in Philadelphia, where Plikard paid leaf tobacco to marry Elizabeth. The couple briefly lived in Pennsylvania, then Virginia, and then settled near Lacy's Creek (the location near today's Siler City). They had ten children. In recent years, Siler City has become a suburb of Greensboro and the Research Triangle Park. Since 1997, it has developed as a center of industrial-scale poultry processing, and attracted numerous immigrants and Latinos for the jobs.
