Chasanova
''Chasanova'' is the second solo studio album by the English singer and multi-instrumentalist Chaz Jankel. It was originally released in 1981, on the label A&M. The album was also released under the title ''Questionnaire''. The album was recorded over a period of seven months between January and July 1981, in sessions that took place at Eastcote Products Recording Studios, in London. The album featured major lyrical contributions from Ian Dury and musical contributions from two of the Blockheads, bassist Norman Watt-Roy and drummer Charlie Charles and also contained the US dance hit " Glad to Know You", which was one of the tracks with lyrics written by Dury, plus the MTV music video of its title track. Chaz Jankel
Charles Jeremy "Chaz" Jankel (born 16 April 1952) is an English musician. In a music career spanning more than 40 years, he came to prominence in the late 1970s as the guitarist and keyboardist of the rock band Ian Dury and the Blockheads. With Dury, Jankel co-wrote some of the band's best-known songs including "Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll", "Hit Me with Your Rhythm Stick" and " Reasons to Be Cheerful, Part 3". In addition to his work with the Blockheads, Jankel has had a solo career which has resulted in nine studio albums. He has a long list of credits as both a performer and as songwriter. Early life Charles Jeremy Jankel was born on 16 April 1952 in Stanmore, Middlesex. "Glad to Know You" is a 1981 dance single by the former keyboard/guitarist for Ian Dury & The Blockheads, Chaz Jankel. After previous single releases "3,000,000 Synths" and "Ai No Corrida", "Glad to Know You" reached number one on the US, ''Billboard'' Hot Dance Club Play chart, remaining there for seven weeks, and becoming the biggest dance single of 1982. Oberheim OB-X
The Oberheim OB-X was the first of Oberheim's OB-series polyphonic analog subtractive synthesizers. First commercially available in June 1979, the OB-X was introduced to compete with the Sequential Circuits Prophet-5, which had been successfully introduced the year before. About 800 units were produced before the OB-X was discontinued and replaced by the updated and streamlined OB-Xa in 1981. The OB line developed and evolved after that with the OB-8 before being replaced by the Matrix series. ''Chas Jankel'' is the debut solo studio album by the English singer and multi-instrumentalist Chaz Jankel. It was originally released in 1980, on the label A&M. Ian Dury and The Blockheads's first and only album without Jankel, ''Laughter'', was released the same year. The first track on the album "Ai No Corrida", was covered by Quincy Jones a year later in 1981 and was a UK chart hit for him. The song has also been covered by the Nylons and Laura More with Uniting Nations. The album was re-issued in 2005 on Angel Air in the United Kingdom as a digitally remastered CD, featuring one bonus track, "Little Eva" which was co-written by Jankel with Ian Dury and was originally released on Jankel's 1985 album '' Looking at You''. The Linn LM-1 Drum Computer is a drum machine manufactured by Linn Electronics and released in 1980. It was the first drum machine to use samples of acoustic drums, and one of the first programmable drum machines. Its designer, the American engineer Roger Linn, wanted a machine that would produce more realistic drum sounds and offer more than preset patterns. The LM-1 became a staple of 1980s pop music and helped establish drum machines as credible tools. The Rudolph Wurlitzer Company, usually referred to as simply Wurlitzer, is an American company started in Cincinnati in 1853 by German immigrant (Franz) Rudolph Wurlitzer. The company initially imported stringed, woodwind and brass instruments from Germany for resale in the United States. Wurlitzer enjoyed initial success, largely due to defense contracts to provide musical instruments to the U.S. military. In 1880, the company began manufacturing pianos and eventually relocated to North Tonawanda, New York. It quickly expanded to make band organs, orchestrions, player pianos and pipe or theatre organs popular in theatres during the days of silent movies. Tom-tom Drum
A tom drum is a cylindrical drum with no snares, named from the Anglo-Indian and Sinhala language. It was added to the drum kit in the early part of the 20th century. Most toms range in size between in diameter, though floor toms can go as large as . It is not to be confused with a tam-tam, a gong. Design history The drum called "Thammattama", played by the Sinhala people of Sri Lanka, is used in a number of Buddhist rituals in that country.
