Charmaine Smith (rugby Union)
Charmaine Smith (born 15 November 1990) is a former New Zealand rugby union player. She was part of the Black Ferns 2017 Rugby World Cup champion side. She previously played for the Blues Women in the Super Rugby Aupiki competition before switching to Chiefs Manawa in 2023. Rugby career Smith debuted for New Zealand against Canada at Calgary in 2015. She was named in the Black Ferns squad for the 2017 Rugby World Cup in Ireland. She was part of the winning team of the 2019 Women's Rugby Super Series. Smith retired from playing rugby in 2020 for health reasons, and returned to her career as a sergeant in the New Zealand Police. A week after giving birth, Smith had a progress scan and was ''"''cleared of any residual health issues''"''. She signed with the Blues for the inaugural season of Super Rugby Aupiki in 2022. Dargaville
Dargaville ( mi, Takiwira) is a town located in the North Island of New Zealand. It is situated on the bank of the Northern Wairoa River in the Kaipara District of the Northland region. Black Ferns
The New Zealand women's rugby union team, called the Black Ferns, represents New Zealand in women's international rugby union, which is regarded as the country's national sport. The team has won six out of nine Women's Rugby World Cup tournaments. They have an 85 per cent winning record in Test match rugby, and are the only women's international side with a winning record against every opponent. Since their official international debut in 1990, the Black Ferns have lost to only four of the sixteen nations they have played against. 2023 Super Rugby Aupiki Season
The 2023 Super Rugby Aupiki season was the second season of Super Rugby Aupiki (known as Sky Super Rugby Aupiki for sponsorship reasons), a professional women's rugby union club competition organised by New Zealand Rugby. The competition ran from 25 February 2023when Hurricanes Poua and Chiefs Manawa played the opening match in Levinto 25 March 2023. The tournament was won by Matatū, who defeated Chiefs Manawa 33–31 in the final in Hamilton, earning them their first Super Rugby Aupiki title. That match also resulted in the Chiefs Manawa's first-ever loss in the two-year-old competition. The 2019 Women's Rugby Super Series was the third series of the Women's Rugby Super Series, a women's international rugby union competition featuring the best-ranked sides. Unlike the previous editions of the Super Series in 2015 and 2016 which featured four teams, the 2019 edition featured five. The Blues Women's team (known as the Nib Health Funds, nib Blues Women for sponsorship reasons) is a New Zealand professional women's rugby union team based in Auckland, New Zealand that competes in the Super Rugby Aupiki competition. History Historic clash On 1 May 2021, the Blues and Chiefs Manawa, Chiefs women's teams created history when they played in the first-ever women's Super Rugby match in New Zealand. The Blues hosted the Chiefs women at Eden Park in a double header before the Super Rugby Aotearoa round 10 match between their men's teams. Super Rugby Aupiki is a professional women's rugby union club competition in New Zealand. Its inaugural season was held in March 2022. It is a steppingstone between the Farah Palmer Cup and the Black Ferns. Aupiki translates as ‘''the ascent to the upper most realm''’. Format Initially the four teams were supposed to have three regular season matches with one home and away game, and one Super Round fixture. The top two teams at the end of the three rounds would contest the final. However, the competition was reformatted as a round robin fixture because of the impact of COVID-19. All the squads were strongly affected with player isolations and COVID-19 cases. The inaugural champion would be crowned based on their competition points after the final round.
