Charlotte De La Marck
Charlotte de La Marck (5 November 1574 – 15 May 1594) was a ruling Princess of Sedan and a Duchess of Bouillon in her own right between 1588 and 1594.Pierre Congar, Jean Lecaillon et Jacques Rousseau, Sedan et le pays sedanais, vingt siècles d’histoire, Éditions F.E.R.N., 1969, 577 p.. Her titles and the principality of Sedan passed in to the House of La Tour d'Auvergne through her marriage without issue. Biography The last surviving child of Henri-Robert de la Marck Duke of Bouillon and Françoise de Bourbon. She was a member of the House of La Marck. Her older brother Guillaume-Robert died without surviving issue, and as such, Charlotte became the heiress to the Duchy of Bouillon, the Principality of Sedan and various other titles in 1588. ''Suo jure'' is a Latin phrase, used in English to mean 'in his own right' or 'in her own right'. In most nobility-related contexts, it means 'in her own right', since in those situations the phrase is normally used of women; in practice, especially in England, a man rarely derives any style or title from his wife (an example is Richard Neville, earl of Warwick from his wife's heritage) although this is seen in other countries when a woman is the last heir of her line. Jacqueline De Longwy
Jacqueline de Longwy, Countess of Bar-sur-Seine (before 1520 – 28 August 1561), Duchess of Montpensier, Dauphine of Auvergne was a French noblewoman, and a half-niece of King Francis I of France. She was the first wife of Louis III de Bourbon, Duke of Montpensier, and the mother of his six children. She had the office of ''Première dame d'honneur'' to the queen dowager regent of France, Catherine de' Medici, from 1560 until 1561. Charles of Orléans (1459 – 1 January 1496) () was the Count of Angoulême from 1467 until his death. He succeeded his father, John, and was initially under the regency of his mother, Marguerite de Rohan, assisted by Jean I de La Rochefoucauld, one of his vassals. Charles commissioned the luxuriously illustrated '' Heures de Charles d'Angoulême''. Family Charles was a grandson of Louis I, Duke of Orléans, a younger son of King Charles V of France. Clara Gonzaga, Countess of Montpensier, Dauphine of Auvergne, Duchess of Sessa (Italian: ''Chiara Gonzaga''; French: ''Claire (de) Gonzague''; 1 July 1464 – 2 June 1503) was an Italian noblewoman of the House of Gonzaga. She was the daughter of Federico I Gonzaga, Marquess of Mantua and the wife of Gilbert, Count of Montpensier. One of her six children was Charles III, Duke of Bourbon, who led the Imperial Army sent by Emperor Charles V against Pope Clement VII in what became the Sack of Rome, and where he was subsequently killed. Gilbert, Count Of Montpensier
Gilbert of Bourbon-Montpensier (1443 – 15 October 1496, Pozzuoli), Count of Montpensier, was a member of the House of Bourbon. He was the son of Louis I, Count of Montpensier and Gabrielle La Tour, Count of Montpensier and Dauphin d'Auvergne. He was appointed to the Order of Saint Michael by King Charles VIII of France in October 1483. Life Gilbert was the first person, after a number of divisions of Auvergne in the Middle Ages, to carry the bloodlines of the respective dynasties of each of the three main divisions of Auvergne, the countship, the dukedom and the dauphinate. John VIII de Bourbon (1425 – 6 January 1478) was Count of Vendôme from 1466 until his death. A member of the House of Bourbon, he was the son and successor of Louis, Count of Vendôme. As a courtier of King Charles VII of France, he fought the English in Normandy and Guyenne. He attached himself to King Louis XI, but was not in royal favor. Jean De Poitiers, Seigneur De Saint Vallier
Jean de Poitiers, seigneur de Saint Vallier (c. 1475 Р1529) was a French nobleman best known as the father of Diane de Poitiers, mistress of King Henry II of France. He was the son of Aymar de Poitiers and Jeanne de La Tour d'Auvergne (sister of John IV, Count of Auvergne, maternal grandfather of the Queen Catherine de' Medici, wife of Henry II of France). In 1523 he was implicated in a plot against King Francis I of France, discovered by his son-in-law Louis de Br̩z̩, seigneur d'Anet, and in 1524 he was condemned to death, but reprieved by the king. He was imprisoned in the French castle of Loches and was relased in 1526. He died three years later, in 1529. Robert II De La Marck
Robert II de la Marck (1468 – November 1536), Duke of Bouillon, Belgium, and Seigneur of Sedan, France. Son of Robert I de la Marck and Jeanne de Saulcy. Biography Robert would fight against the supporters of John de Horne, Bishop of Liege, along with his own minor border engagements in the latter 15th century. He fought at the battle of Novara, saving the lives of his sons, was seriously wounded, taking two months to recover. In 1518, Robert left French service after his company of lances was disbanded due to pillaging. He allied with Charles I of Spain, but later reconciled with Francis I of France. In 1521, he would place Virton under siege, thus instigating the Four Years War. During the war between Charles and Francis, Robert would be driven from his lands by Charles, which were restored following the Treaty of Madrid (1526).
