Charlotta Deland
Hedvig Lovisa ''Charlotta'' Deland (née de Broen; 7 February 1807, Stockholm - 28 May 1864, Stockholm), was a Swedish stage actress. She was born in to an acting family and connected to many well known figures within the theater world, which gave her valuable contacts during her own career. She was the daughter of the actors Isaac de Broen and Christina Margareta Cederberg, managers of the ''Djurgårdsteatern'', and stepdaughter of the theatre director Christoffer Svanberg, who was the leader of his own travelling theatre company. She was also the niece of Carl Wildner, who took over the ''Djurgårdsteatern'' after her mother. Charlotta Deland was educated in a fashionable girls' school. She made her debut in the travelling theatre company of her stepfather Christoffer Svanberg in 1831. Isaac De Broen
Isaac de Broen (1783–1814), was a Swedish stage actor and theatre manager. He was the son of Abraham de Broen and Maria Elisabet de Broen and the brother of Debora Aurora de Broen. He married the actor and theatre director Christina Margareta Cederberg in 1804, and became the father of the actor Charlotta Deland and father-in-law of Pierre Deland. Christina Margareta Cederberg
Christina Margareta Cederberg (1786–1858), was a Swedish stage actor and theatre manager. She was the daughter of Carl Magnus Cederberg and Rebecca Momma and the sister of the actor Catharina Cederberg. She married the actor and theatre director Isaac de Broen in 1804, and became the mother of the actor Charlotta Deland and mother-in-law of Pierre Deland. After the death of her husband in 1814, she took over the ''Djurgårdsteatern'', at the time the only theatre allowed in the capital aside for the Royal Dramatic Theatre. She was the second woman to lead the theatre, after her mother-in-law. In 1815, she left the theatre to Karl Wildner, the husband of her sister-in-law. Djurgårdsteatern
Djurgårdsteatern (Swedish for "Djurgården Theatre"), was an historical Swedish theatre, active at Djurgården in Stockholm between 1801 and 1929 (from 1863 in a new building). It was the only theatre in Stockholm outside the royal theatres during the monopol of the royal theatres between 1799 and 1842, and it also played an important part in abolishing this royal monopol. Until 1842, it was a "summer theatre", but later, it became an all-year theatre and an important one, called the "theatre of the people". It was described as a wood building with the same exterior of a barn, and was painted yellow. Pierre Joseph Deland (13 December 1805 – 13 November 1862) was a Swedish stage actor and theatre director. He was the director of the Deland Theater Company in 1833-1861, a travelling theater famous in both Sweden and Finland, and as such an influential and well known figure of the stage life of both countries in the mid 19th-century. He was the founder of the ''Dramatiska och musikaliska artisternas pensionsförening'' ('Retirement Fund for Dramatic and Musical Artists') in 1857. Augustin Eugène Scribe (; 24 December 179120 February 1861) was a French dramatist and librettist. He is known for writing "well-made plays" ("pièces bien faites"), a mainstay of popular theatre for over 100 years, and as the librettist of many of the most successful grand operas and opéras-comiques. Born to a middle-class Parisian family, Scribe was intended for a legal career, but was drawn to the theatre, and began writing plays while still in his teens. His early years as a playwright were unsuccessful, but from 1815 onwards he prospered. Writing, usually with one or more collaborators, he produced several hundred stage works. He wrote to entertain the public rather than educate it. Many of his plays were written in a formulaic manner which aimed at neatness of plot and focus on dramatic incident rather than naturalism, depth of characterisation or intellectual substance. Royal Dramatic Theatre
The Royal Dramatic Theatre ( sv, Kungliga Dramatiska Teatern, colloquially ''Dramaten'') is Sweden's national stage for "spoken drama", founded in 1788. Around one thousand shows are put on annually on the theatre's five running stages. The theatre has been at its present location in the Art Nouveau building at Nybroplan, Stockholm, since 1908. The theatre was built by the architect Fredrik Lilljekvist. Famous artists like Carl Milles and Carl Larsson were involved in making the decorations, and some of the interior decorations were made by Prince Eugen. The theatre's acting school, the Royal Dramatic Training Academy, produced many actors and directors who would go on to be famous, including Gustaf Molander (who also taught there), Alf Sjöberg, Greta Garbo, Vera Schmiterlöw, Signe Hasso, Ingrid Bergman, Gunnar Björnstrand, Max von Sydow, and Bibi Andersson.
