Charlot Jeudy
Charlot Jeudy (January 1, 1984 – November 25, 2019) was a Haitian activist who was involved in the emergence of an LGBT rights movement in Haiti. He was a leading figure in the M community (Masisi, Madivin, Monkonpè, Makomè, Mix) in Haiti, as well as a human rights activist with his involvement in Kouraj. Charlot Jeudy was also a collaborator of the Massimadi Festival, the United Nations Mission for Justice Support in Haiti and Equitas. Biography Activism Beginning in 2009, Charlot Jeudy struggled with his friends to demonstrate the importance of an organizational structure that promoted LGBT rights in Haiti, as Jeudy had been the victim of several acts of discrimination. The idea of AMIAMI originated with the primary goal of creating cultural events in the LGBT community. Port-au-Prince
Port-au-Prince ( , ; ht, Pòtoprens ) is the capital and most populous city of Haiti. The city's population was estimated at 987,311 in 2015 with the metropolitan area estimated at a population of 2,618,894. The metropolitan area is defined by the IHSI as including the communes of Port-au-Prince, Delmas, Cite Soleil, Tabarre, Carrefour and Pétion-Ville. LGBT Rights In Haiti
Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) persons in Haiti face social and legal challenges not experienced by non-LGBT residents. Adult, noncommercial and consensual same-sex sexuality is not a criminal offense, but transgender people can be fined for violating a broadly written vagrancy law. Public opinion tends to be opposed to LGBT rights, which is why LGBT people are not protected from discrimination, are not included in hate crimes laws and households headed by same-sex couples do not have any of the legal rights given to married couples. Massimadi Festival
The Massimadi Festival is an annual arts and cultural festival in Montreal, Quebec, which centres on LGBTQ culture from Africa and the African diaspora. Launched in 2009 by activist Laurent Lafontant, the event stages a program of artistic exhibitions, film screenings and panel discussions on Black LGBTQ communities and topics. In 2021, the organization also launched Massimadi en rue, a street performance event staged separately from the festival. The United Nations Mission for Justice Support in Haiti (MINUJUSTH) was a peacekeeping mission in Haiti mandated by the United Nations Security Council through Resolutions 2350 (2017) and 2410 (2018). It was the successor to MINUSTAH (the United Nations Stabilisation Mission in Haiti). In April 2017, the Security Council unanimously agreed that the then 2,370 soldiers serving in United Nations Stabilisation Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) had to be gradually withdrawn until 15 October 2017 to make way for the new MINUJUSTH as the successor operation. MINUJUSTH had up to 1,275 members of the police force as well as correction officers and international civilians, but no military personnel. Two Indian units that served in MINUSTAH remained in Haiti to serve in MINUJUSTH, while the other unit returned to India. Equitas
Equitas is a group of companies that was formed in 1996 to assume by way of reinsurance the vast and crippling liabilities that had accumulated in the syndicates at Lloyd's of London on insurance policies written on the 1992 and all prior years of account. These liabilities were reinsured by Equitas Reinsurance Limited (ERL), which was also appointed as the run-off agent. The liabilities were then retroceded (reinsured again) to Equitas Limited, to which ERL also delegated its run-off function. Background In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Lloyd's became engulfed with losses arising predominantly out of asbestosis, pollution and health hazard policies, some dating back several decades.
