Charlie Yingling
Charles Christian Yingling (December 7, 1865 - April 13, 1897) was a professional baseball player. Yingling played in one game in Major League Baseball with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1894 as a shortstop. He had one hit in four at bats. Yingling was born and died in Baltimore, Maryland. Coincidentally, Charlie's brother, Joe Yingling, also appeared in just one major league game, in his case as a pitcher. Shortstop
Shortstop, abbreviated SS, is the baseball or softball fielding position between second and third base, which is considered to be among the most demanding defensive positions. Historically the position was assigned to defensive specialists who were typically poor at batting and were often placed at the bottom of the batting order. Today, shortstops are often able to hit well and many are placed at the top of the lineup. In the numbering system used by scorers to record defensive plays, the shortstop is assigned the number 6. Joseph Yingling (1867–1903) was a professional baseball pitcher. He appeared in one game in Major League Baseball for the Washington Nationals in 1886. Yingling was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and also died there at age 36 from bronchitis. He was 19 when he played with the Nationals. In baseball, an at bat (AB) or time at bat is a batter's turn batting against a pitcher. An at bat is different from a plate appearance. A batter is credited with a plate appearance regardless of what happens during their turn at bat, but a batter is credited with an at bat only if that plate appearance does not have one of the results enumerated below.
