Charlie Tobin
Charles Tobin (20 October 1919 – 20 May 1996) was an Irish sportsperson. He played hurling with his local club Glen Rovers and was a member of both the Cork and Dublin senior inter-county teams in the 1930s and 1940s. Playing career Tobin joined the Glen Rovers senior team in 1937 and won the first of five successive county senior championship titles that year. Renowned as a high goal-scoring forward, he claimed a further two winners' medals in 1944 and 1945. Having never played at inter-county underage or junior levels, Tobin was drafted onto the Cork senior team during the 1940 Munster Championship. He was dropped from the team the following year before being reinstated in 1942. Tobin claimed a Munster Championship medal that year before lining out at left corner-forward in the All-Ireland final defeat of Dublin. Glen Rovers GAA
Glen Rovers is a Cork (city), Cork-based Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Blackpool, Cork, Ireland. The club was founded in 1916 and is primarily concerned with the game of hurling. They were Cork senior hurling champions in 2015 and 2016, having won their first title in 26 years in 2015. They retained the championship in 2016, when they beat Erin's Own in the final. Only Blackrock have won more Cork senior hurling championships. Hurling Colours In the early days of the club, its colours were green, white and gold. The Easter Rising and the execution of the leaders took place in the same year the Glen was founded. These events left such an impression on the minds of the Irish public that it was decided to add a black band to the jersey to honour the recently deceased patriots. The 1942 Cork Senior Hurling Championship was the 54th staging of the Cork Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Cork County Board in 1887. The draw for the opening round fixtures took place at the Cork Convention on 25 January 1942. The championship began on 19 April 1942 and ended on 4 October 1942. Glen Rovers entered the championship as the defending champions and were in search of a ninth successive title, however, they were beaten by Ballincollig in the semi-final. The final was played on 4 October 1942 at the Athletic Grounds in Cork, between St. Finbarr's and Ballincollig, in what was their first ever meeting in the final. St. Finbarr's won the match by 5–07 to 2–02 to claim their 11th championship title overall and a first title in nine years. The 1942 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship was the 56th staging of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county hurling tournament. The GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship, known simply as the All-Ireland Championship, is an annual inter-county hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). Irish Army
The Irish Army, known simply as the Army ( ga, an tArm), is the land component of the Defence Forces of Ireland.The Defence Forces are made up of the Permanent Defence Forces – the standing branches – and the Reserve Defence Forces.
