Charlie Ondras was an American drummer from New York and a founding member of the noise rock band Unsane (band), Unsane, formerly Lawn-Chair-Blisters.Unsane Biography on Matador Records website , cited March 31, 2011 He also collaborated with Jon Spencer and Cristina Martínez (musician), Cristina Martinez under the name Boss Hog and appeared on the band's first two releases. Noise Rock
Noise rock (sometimes called noise punk) is a noise music, noise-oriented style of experimental rock that spun off from punk rock in the 1980s. Drawing on movements such as minimal music, minimalism, industrial music, and New York hardcore, artists indulge in extreme levels of distortion through the use of electric guitars and, less frequently, electronic instrumentation, either to provide percussive sounds or to contribute to the overall arrangement. Some groups are tied to song structures, such as Sonic Youth. Although they are not representative of the entire genre, they helped popularize noise rock among alternative rock audiences by incorporating melodies into their droning textures of sound, which set a template that numerous other groups followed. ''Unsane'' is the debut album by Unsane, released in 1991 through Matador Records. It is the only studio album by the group to feature founding member Charlie Ondras, who died of a heroin overdose during the 1992 New Music Seminar in New York during the tour supporting the album. The album's cover art, depicting a decapitated corpse on subway tracks, was given to the band from a friend who worked on the investigation for the case. Death metal band Entombed covered "Vandal-X" on their self-titled compilation album in 1997.
