Charlie Mullen
Charles George Mullen (March 15, 1889 – June 6, 1963) was a Major League Baseball first baseman. From 1910 to 1911, Mullen played for the Chicago White Sox, who kept him at first base almost exclusively throughout his two seasons with the team. After a three-year absence, Mullen came back to the major leagues for play for the New York Yankees from 1914 to 1916. He had 183 hits in 741 at bats and 87 Run batted in, RBIs. Mullen died in Seattle, Washington. He is interred at Evergreen Washelli Memorial Park. First Baseman
A first baseman, abbreviated 1B, is the player on a baseball or softball team who fields the area nearest first base, the first of four bases a baserunner must touch in succession to score a run. The first baseman is responsible for the majority of plays made at that base. In the numbering system used to record defensive plays, the first baseman is assigned the number 3. Also called first sacker or cornerman, the first baseman is ideally a tall player who throws left-handed and possesses good flexibility and quick reflexes. Flexibility is needed because the first baseman receives throws from the other infielders, the catcher and the pitcher after they have fielded ground balls. In order for the runner to be called out, the first baseman must be able to ''stretch'' towards the throw and catch it before the runner reaches first base.
