Charlie McConkey
Charlie McConkey (born 1955) is an American politician who is a Democratic member of the Iowa House of Representatives, representing the 15th district. McConkey was first elected in 2014 to replace retiring Republican Representative Mark Brandenburg. McConkey endorsed former Maryland governor Martin O'Malley for the Democratic nomination in the 2016 presidential election. Mark A. Brandenburg (born 1955) was the Iowa State Representative from the 15th District. A Republican, he served in the Iowa House of Representatives from 2011 to 2015. Brandenburg was born, raised, and resides in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Mark Brandenburg (baseball)
Mark Clay Brandenburg (born July 14, 1970) is an American former middle-relief pitcher in Major League Baseball who played from through for the Texas Rangers (1995–96) and Boston Red Sox (1996–97). Brandenburg batted and threw right-handed. Listed at 6' 0", 180 lb., he was selected by the Texas Rangers in the 1992 draft out of Texas Tech. In a three-season career, Brandenburg posted a 5–8 record with a 4.49 earned run average, 121 strikeouts, 56 walks, 144 ⅓ innings, and no saves, in 97 games pitched. In July 2008, Brandenburg was inducted into the Texas Tech Athletics Hall of Fame. Carter Lake, Iowa
Carter Lake is a city in Pottawattamie County, Iowa, United States. A suburb of Omaha, Nebraska, it sits surrounding the south and west sides of the region's major airport, Eppley Airfield. It is separated from the rest of Iowa by the Missouri River, effectively making it an exclave. The population was 3,791 at the 2020 census. History Carter Lake is an example of the border irregularities of the United States, being the only city in Iowa located west of the Missouri River. In March 1877, a flood redirected the course of the river 1.25 mi (2 km) to the southeast. The remnants of the old river course, called Saratoga Bend, became an oxbow lake, named Carter Lake. ''The Des Moines Register'' is the daily morning newspaper of Des Moines, Iowa. History Early period The first newspaper in Des Moines was the ''Iowa Star''. In July 1849, Barlow Granger began the paper in an abandoned log cabin by the junction of the Des Moines and Raccoon River.
