Charley Marouani
Charley Marouani (7 December 1926 – 29 July 2017) was a Tunisian impresario and talent agent. Early life Charley Marouani was born in 1926 in Sousse, Tunisia. He had a brother, Gilbert Marouani, who became a music producer. Their father, an olive oil taster, died in 1944, and Marouni emigrated to France. Career Marouani began his career as a photographer in Nice. He subsequently moved to Paris, where he became a talent agent alongside his uncle. His first client was Jacques Brel. Other clients included Barbara (singer), Barbara, Sylvie Vartan, Henri Salvador, Joe Dassin, Salvatore Adamo, Richard Anthony (singer), Richard Anthony, Julien Clerc and Enrico Macias. In his 2011 memoir, he recounted many stories about his celebrity clients. Marouani became a knight of the Legion of Honour in 2009. Sousse or Soussa ( ar, سوسة, ; Berber:''Susa'') is a city in Tunisia, capital of the Sousse Governorate. Located south of the capital Tunis, the city has 271,428 inhabitants (2014). Sousse is in the central-east of the country, on the Gulf of Hammamet, which is a part of the Mediterranean Sea. Its economy is based on transport equipment, processed food, olive oil, textiles, and tourism. It is home to the Université de Sousse. Toponymy ''Sousse'' and ''Soussa'' are both French spellings of the Arabic name ''Sūsa'', which may derive from Berber (cf., e.g., Morocco's Sous River and Region). Salvatore Adamo (born November 1, 1943) is a Belgian-Italian musician, singer and composer, who is known for his romantic ballads. Adamo was born in Comiso, Sicily, Italy, and has lived in Belgium since the age of three, which is why he has dual citizenship. Since 2001 Adamo holds the Belgian noble title of '' Ridder'', similar to the English title of "Knight". He first gained popularity throughout Europe and later in the Middle East, Latin America, Japan, and the United States. An impresario (from the Italian ''impresa'', "an enterprise or undertaking") is a person who organizes and often finances concerts, plays, or operas, performing a role in stage arts that is similar to that of a film or television producer. Gaston Ghrenassia (born 11 December 1938), known by his stage name Enrico Macias, is an Algerian-French singer, songwriter and musician of Algerian Jewish descent. Early years Gaston Ghrenassia was born to a Sephardic Algerian Jewish family in Constantine, Algeria. His father, Sylvain Ghrenassia (1914–2004), was a violinist in an orchestra that played primarily ''malouf'', Andalusian classical music. Gaston played the guitar from childhood, and started playing with the Cheikh Raymond Leyris Orchestra at age 15. He pursued a school teacher career, but continued playing the guitar. In 1961, the Algerian War of Independence was raging, and the situation became untenable for the Jewish and European residents of Constantine. Paul Alain Leclerc (born 4 October 1947), known by his stage name Julien Clerc (), is a French singer-songwriter. Life Born in Paris, Clerc grew up listening to classical music in his father Paul Leclerc's home, while his mother Évelyne Merlot introduced him to the music of such singers as Georges Brassens and Edith Piaf. He began to learn the piano at six, and by 13, started to play by ear everything he heard on the radio. During his secondary school and university days, he met Maurice Vallet and Etienne Roda-Gil, two of his main songwriters, and began to compose his first songs. Richard Anthony, born Ricardo Anthony Btesh (13 January 1938 – 19 April 2015), was a French pop singer, born in Egypt, who had his greatest success in the 1960s and 1970s. Life and career He was born in Cairo, Egypt, to a family of prominent industrialists and diplomats. As a child he lived in Egypt and Argentina, as well as studying at Brighton College in England.
