Charleston County School District is a school district within Charleston County, South Carolina, United States. It educates roughly 50,000 kindergarten to 12th grade students in 80 schools. Charleston County School District’s (CCSD) Board of Trustees voted Monday, June 27, 2022, to name Donald R. Kennedy, Sr., the Superintendent of Schools. Kennedy has served as CCSD’s Interim Superintendent since January 2022. It is the school district for the entire county. Charleston is the largest city in the U.S. state of South Carolina, the county seat of Charleston County, and the principal city in the Charleston–North Charleston metropolitan area. Septima Poinsette Clark (May 3, 1898 – December 15, 1987) was an African United States, American educator and civil rights activist. Clark developed the literacy and citizenship workshops that played an important role in the drive for voting rights and civil rights for African Americans in the Civil Rights Movement. Septima Clark's work was commonly under-appreciated by Southern male activists. She became known as the "Queen mother" or "Grandmother" of the Civil Rights Movement in the United States. West Ashley High School
West Ashley High School is the only public high school located in the West Ashley area in Charleston, South Carolina, United States. It was created in 2000, when the Charleston County School District merged Middleton High School and Saint Andrews High School. It is a part of St. Andrews Constituent District #10. Wando High School (often shortened to "Wando") is a public high school within the Charleston County School District, located in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, United States. The school serves students living in Mount Pleasant and other suburban portions of eastern Charleston County. Charleston County School of the Arts (SOA) is a public magnet school located in North Charleston, South Carolina and is considered part of the Charleston County School District. It was founded in 1995 by Rose Maree Jordan Myers, who served as principal until 2007. Admissions SOA serves more than 1,100 students in grades 6 through 12. Admission to SOA is based upon a competitive audition in one of nine majors: creative writing, dance, instrumental band, piano, string orchestra, theater arts, visual arts, vocal music, and fashion and costume design. North Charleston High School (NCHS) is a public high school in North Charleston, South Carolina, United States. It is a part of the Charleston County School District (CCSD). The school previously used the 5,000-seat Attaway-Heinsohn Stadium, named after Alvin F. Heinsohn and Hubert H. Attaway, built in the 1950s for $160,000, and dedicated in 1956. It was located across Montague Avenue from the North Charleston High building. The district announced in 2018 that the stadium will be demolished and replaced with the North Charleston Center for Advanced Studies.
