Charles Wilbert White, Jr. (April 2, 1918 – October 3, 1979) was an American artist known for his chronicling of African American related subjects in paintings, drawings, lithographs, and murals. White's lifelong commitment to chronicling the triumphs and struggles of his community in representational from, cemented him as one of the most well-known artists in African American art history. Following his death in 1979, White's work has been included in the permanent collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, The Newark Museum, and the Santa Barbara Museum of Art. Charlie White (baseball)
Charles White (August 12, 1927 – May 26, 1998) was an American professional baseball player who had a 15-year career in the game, including full seasons in the Negro leagues and in Major League Baseball. The catcher was a native of Kinston, North Carolina; he was tall, weighed , batted left-handed and threw right-handed. Early career White broke into pro ball with the Philadelphia Stars of the Negro American League in . After that season, he was acquired by the St. Louis Browns, whose owner, Bill Veeck, was active in integrating his organization's playing ranks. White spent three seasons in the upper levels of minor league baseball in the Browns' farm system before being traded to the Milwaukee Braves prior to the season. Charles Lincoln White (January 22, 1863 – 1941) was the 13th president of Colby College, Maine, United States, from 1901 to 1908. Early life White was born in Nashua, New Hampshire, to George and Harriet Richardson White. He was educated at Woburn High School and graduated from Brown University in 1887 where he was a member of Delta Upsilon, and Newton Theological Institution in 1889. Career He was pastor at Somersworth Baptist Church, New Hampshire, from 1890 to 1894, and the First Church of Nashua from 1894 to 1900. Charles T. "Charlie" or "Charley" White (1821–1891), was an early blackface minstrel entertainer. Born June 4, 1821 in Newark, New York, White moved with his family at the age of two to New York City, where, before he launched his career as an entertainer, he worked in racing stables, for a druggist, in a chair factory and in city government positions. He first came to public attention in 1843 as an accordion player at the Thalian Hall at 42 Grand Street. That summer, he joined the "Kentucky Minstrels" troupe at the Vauxhall Garden Theatre on Fourth Avenue. After Daddy Rice popularized blackface with his Jim Crow character, White incorporated some "negro act" with his accordion playing and then founded White's Kitchen Minstrels in New York in the early 1840s, opening at the Melodeon on the Bowery. Charles Ignatius White (born at Baltimore, Maryland, U.S.A., 1 February 1807; died at Washington, D.C., 1 April 1878) was an American editor, historian, and Catholic priest. He was one of the leading Catholic publicists in the United States during the second half of the nineteenth century. Biography Charles Abiathar White was born at North Dighton, Massachusetts. He was the State geologist of Iowa in 1866-70, and professor of natural history in the State University of Iowa in 1867-73. He held a similar position at Bowdoin College in 1873-75, and was geologist and paleontologist of the United States Geological Survey between 1874 and 1892, and after 1895 was an associate in paleontology at the United States National Museum. Charles White FRS (4 October 1728 – 20 February 1813) was an English physician and a co-founder of the Manchester Royal Infirmary along with local industrialist Joseph Bancroft as well as the St Mary's Hospital for Lying in Women in 1790.
