Charles Washington Baird
Charles Washington Baird (August 28, 1828 – February 10, 1887) was a prominent 19th-century American Presbyterian minister and historian. Early life and education Born in Princeton, New Jersey, he was the second son to the evangelical Presbyterian historian Rev. Robert Baird, master of the Latin school in Princeton, New Jersey. He went to Europe in 1835 with his father, when the elder Baird went to represent the Foreign Evangelical Society, whose mission was to support the Protestant cause in the Catholic countries of Europe. He returned to America for his formal education attending college at the University of the City of New York, and seminary at Union Theological Seminary (NYC) in 1852. From 1852 to 1854 he was Chaplain to the American Embassy in Rome, following in his father's footsteps the expressed concern for the Protestant cause on the Continent. Robert Baird (clergyman)
Robert Baird (October 6, 1798 – March 15, 1863) was an American clergyman and author. He was born in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, near Pittsburgh, and graduated at Jefferson College in 1818 and at Princeton Theological Seminary in 1822. He taught at an academy at Princeton, New Jersey for five years while tutoring at the College of New Jersey and preaching occasionally. (In 1824, he helped to create the Chi Phi Society, a semi-religious, semi-literary organization, which ceased activity the following year when it merged with the Philadelphian Society.) In 1827 Baird became a New Jersey agent for the American Bible Society, distributing Bibles among the poor and laboring among destitute Presbyterian churches. His survey of educational deficiencies eventually led to the introduction of a system of public education in New Jersey. Hughes Oliphant Old (April 13, 1933 – May 24, 2016) was an American theologian and academic. Until his retirement in 2014 he was the John H. Leith Professor of Reformed Theology and Worship at Erskine Theological Seminary. Previously he had taught at Princeton Theological Seminary. Biography Old was born April 13, 1933, and received his Bachelor of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1958 and his Doctor of Theology from the University of Neuchâtel in 1971. His first charge was minister of the Penningtonville Presbyterian Church in Atglen, Pennsylvania. In the late ‘70s he served as pastor at Faith Presbyterian Church in West Lafayette Indiana where he also led students at Purdue University in bible study. Rye is a coastal suburb of New York City in Westchester County, New York, United States. It is separate from the Town of Rye, which has more land area than the city. The City of Rye, formerly the Village of Rye, was part of the Town until it received its charter as a city in 1942, making it the youngest city in the State of New York.
