Charles Vaughan (of Porthamal)
Sir Charles Vaughan (1584-1630) was a Welsh landowner and politician who sat in the House of Commons in 1614 and 1625. Vaughan was the eldest son of Sir Walter Vaughan of Dunraven, Glamorgan, Pembrey, Carmarthenshire, and Tealstone, Wiltshire (died 1639) and Anne Hannam. He was educated at The Queen's College, Oxford. Vaughan was knighted on 7 November 1608, soon after his marriage. He had a family tree or pedigree drawn up, which described his descent form the Vaughan family of Bredwardine, Herefordshire. In 1614, Vaughan was elected Member of Parliament for Breconshire. He was elected MP for Breconshire again in 1625. Charles Vaughan is sometimes confused with another Member of Parliament and sheriff of Brecknock, Charles Vaughan of Tretower (died 1637). Shaftesbury (UK Parliament Constituency)
Shaftesbury was a parliamentary constituency in Dorset. It returned two Members of Parliament to the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom from 1295 until 1832 and one member until the constituency was abolished in 1885. History Boundaries and franchise before 1832 Shaftesbury was one of the towns summoned to send representatives to the Model Parliament of 1295, and thereafter was continuously represented (except during the temporary upheavals of the Commonwealth) until the 19th century. The constituency was a parliamentary borough, which until 1832 consisted of parts of three parishes in the town of Shaftesbury, a market town in Dorset. Charles John Vaughan
Charles John Vaughan (16 August 1816 – 15 October 1897) was an English scholar and Anglican churchman. Life He was born in Leicester, the second son of the Revd Edward Thomas Vaughan, vicar of St Martin's, Leicester. He was educated at Rugby School and Cambridge, where he was bracketed senior classic with Lord Lyttelton in 1838. In 1839 he was elected fellow of Trinity College, Cambridge, and for a short time studied law. He took orders in 1841, and became vicar of St Martin's, Leicester. Three years later he was elected headmaster of Harrow School. He resigned the headship in 1859 and accepted the bishopric of Rochester, but afterwards withdrew his acceptance. In 1860 he was appointed vicar of Doncaster. He was appointed Master of the Temple in 1869, and Dean of Llandaff in 1879, a post he held until his death. Charles Richard Vaughan
Sir Charles Richard Vaughan, GCH, PC, (20 December 1774 – 15 June 1849) was a British diplomat. Vaughan born at Leicester, the son of James Vaughan, a physician, and his wife, Hester ''née'' Smalley. His brothers were Sir Henry Halford (Vaughan), who dropped the family name; Sir John Vaughan (1769–1839), a Baron of the Exchequer; and Peter Vaughan, Warden of Merton College, Oxford. Vaughan was educated at Rugby School, where he entered on 22 January 1788, and at Merton College, Oxford, matriculating on 26 October 1791. He graduated BA in 1796 and MA in 1798, in which year he was also elected a fellow of All Souls College, Oxford. He intended to follow the medical profession, attending lectures in both Edinburgh and London, and took the degree of MB in 1800. ''Survivors'' is a British post-apocalyptic fiction drama television series created by Terry Nation and produced by Terence Dudley at the BBC, that broadcast from 1975 to 1977. It concerns the plight of a group of people who have survived an apocalyptic plague pandemic, which was accidentally released by a Chinese scientist and quickly spread across the world via air travel. Referred to as "The Death", the plague kills approximately 4,999 out of every 5,000 human beings on the planet within a matter of weeks of being released. Production History The programme ran for three series and 38 episodes (series 1 and 2 comprised 13 episodes each, the third series just 12; budget cuts and technical problems reduced the planned last double episode to a single, as some scenes were lost during shooting). Rear Admiral Sir Charles Lionel Vaughan-Lee, (27 February 1867-16 March 1928) was a senior Royal Navy officer in the early 20th century. He served during World War I, rising to the rank of rear-admiral. Biography Vaughan-Lee was born in the English village of Measham in 1867. By 1881 he was a naval cadet on , the Royal Navy's officer cadet training ship. In September 1882, Vaughan-Lee was appointed as a midshipman on . Vaughan-Lee was promoted to captain on 30 June 1904. In June 1906, he was captain of as part of the Eastern Fleet, China Station Cruiser Squadron.
