Charles Simpson (cricketer)
Charles Edward Simpson (27 March 1882 – 26 June 1956) was an Australian cricketer. He played first-class cricket for Queensland and New South Wales between 1906 and 1910. Charles Simpson showed promise in the five matches he played for Queensland in three seasons, and was selected in three matches for The Rest (of Australia): two against the Australian Test team and one against New South Wales. In the one against New South Wales in January 1910 he opened the batting and scored 102 in the second innings in 102 minutes, putting on 167 for the first wicket with Edgar Mayne. He was selected a few days later in the Australian team that toured New Zealand at the end of the season, and played in five first-class matches on the tour, including one of the two against New Zealand. New South Wales Cricket Team
The New South Wales men's cricket team (formerly named NSW Blues) are an Australian men's professional first class cricket team based in Sydney, New South Wales. The team competes in the Australian first class cricket competition known as the Sheffield Shield and the limited overs Marsh One-Day Cup. The team previously played in the now defunct Twenty20, Big Bash, which has since been replaced by the Big Bash League since the 2011–12 season. New South Wales were the inaugural winners of the Champions League Twenty20. They are the most successful domestic cricket side in Australia having won the First-class competition 47 times. Cricket
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket. Edgar Mayne
Edgar Richard "Ernie" Mayne (2 July 1882 – 26 October 1961) was an Australian cricketer who played as a right-handed batsman and bowler. Mayne played in four Test matches for Australia between 1912 and 1921. He made his Test debut on 15 July 1912 against South Africa in the 1912 Triangular Tournament in England. Australian Cricket Team In New Zealand In 1909–10
The Australia national cricket team toured New Zealand from February to April 1910 and played seven first-class matches including two against the New Zealand national cricket team. New Zealand at this time had not been elevated to Test status. Australia won five of the seven first-class matches by comfortable margins, including the two against New Zealand. The match against Canterbury was a close draw, and the last match, against Hawke's Bay, was abandoned without any play taking place.
