Charles Santiago
Charles Anthony s/o R. Santiago ( ta, சார்ல்ஸ் சந்தியாகோ, Cārls Cantiyākō; born 1 November 1960) is a Malaysian politician from the Democratic Action Party (DAP), a component party of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) opposition coalition. He has served as Chairman of the Human Rights and Constitutional Affairs Select Committee since December 2019. He is also Chairman of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Parliamentarians for Human Rights (APHR). He served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Klang from March 2008 to November 2022 and Chairman of the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) from November 2018 to October 2020. Human Rights And Constitutional Affairs Select Committee
The Human Rights and Constitutional Affairs Select Committee (Malay: Jawatankuasa Pilihan Khas Hak Asasi Manusia dan Hal Ehwal Perlembagaan) is one of many select committees of the Malaysian House of Representatives. It is among four new bipartisan parliamentary select committees announced by the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department in charge of legal affairs, Liew Vui Keong, on 17 October 2019 in an effort to improve the institutional system. The creation saw the portfolio of human rights being moved from the previous Rights and Gender Equality Select Committee, now known as the Gender Equality and Family Development Select Committee. An independent or non-partisan politician is a politician not affiliated with any political party or bureaucratic association. 2004 Malaysian General Election
A general election was held on Sunday, 21 March 2004 for members of the 11th Parliament of Malaysia. Voting took place in all 219 parliamentary constituencies of Malaysia, each electing one Member of Parliament to the Dewan Rakyat, the dominant house of Parliament. This is first election for Abdullah as Prime Minister since appointed for this position in 2003. The Dewan Rakyat (English: 'House of Representatives'; ) is the lower house of the bicameral Parliament, the federal legislature of Malaysia. The chamber and its powers are established by Article 44 of the Constitution of Malaysia. The Dewan Rakyat sits in the Houses of Parliament in Kuala Lumpur, along with the Dewan Negara, the upper house.
