Charles Pittman (politician)
Charles Pittman (born July 6, 1948) is a former Mississippi State Senator (1980–1984) from Grenada, Mississippi. Since January, 2004, Pittman has been a Constituent Services/Special Project Consultant on Governor Haley Barbour's staff. In 1982, Pittman ran unsuccessfully in the Democratic primary against Senator John C. Stennis. Because of the 1982 Stennis Race, Pittman is listed in Forrest Lamar Cooper's book, "Mississippi Trivia," as the Mississippian having received the most votes ever in any Democratic primary campaign against Stennis, receiving 33,651 votes. Stennis later defeated Barbour in the 1982 general election. In 1983, Pittman was edged out in a crowded Democratic primary for Mississippi Secretary of State. Dick Molpus was ultimately elected Secretary of State where he served for 12 years. In 1999 Pittman penned the Mississippi political slogan, "Me and My Truck Are For Amy Tuck". Charles E. Pittman (born March 23, 1958) is a retired American professional basketball player. Born in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, he was a 6'8" 220 lb forward. After playing collegiately for University of Maryland, he was selected in the 3rd round (61st overall) of the 1982 NBA Draft by the Phoenix Suns. He played for the Suns from 1982 to 1986 for a total of 234 games (14.1 MPG, 4.5 PPG and 3.1 RPG). Charles Vernon Pittman (born January 22, 1948, in Baltimore, Maryland) is a former professional American football player. He was an All-American halfback at Penn State and played in the NFL for the St. Louis Cardinals and the Baltimore Colts. Collegiate career Recruited out of Edmondson High School in Baltimore, Maryland, Pittman was a member of Joe Paterno's first recruiting class as head coach. A crafty, oversized running back on defensive-minded teams, he rushed for 2,236 yards and 30 touchdowns in his career with the Nittany Lions. In his junior and senior seasons, Penn State went 22–0, with wins over Kansas and Missouri in the 1969 and 1970 Orange Bowls. Pittman led the Nittany Lions in rushing in 1969 with 706 yards and 10 touchdowns on 149 carries, caught 10 passes for 127 yards and topped the team in scoring with 66 points.
