Charles Phillips (skater)
Charles Phillips (born 1938) was an American ice dancer. Competing with Margie Ackles, he won the gold medal at the 1960 U.S. Figure Skating Championships. Phillips lived in Hollywood and was a 1957 graduate of UCLA. Ice Dancing
Ice dance (sometimes referred to as ice dancing) is a discipline of figure skating that historically draws from ballroom dancing. It joined the World Figure Skating Championships in 1952, and became a Winter Olympic Games medal sport in 1976. According to the International Skating Union (ISU), the governing body of figure skating, an ice dance team consists of one woman and one man. Ice dance, like pair skating, has its roots in the "combined skating" developed in the 19th century by skating clubs and organizations and in recreational social skating. Margie Ackles Jones (1938 - June 29, 2019) was an American figure skater, who competed in ice dance with Charles Phillips. The U.S. Figure Skating Championships is a figure skating competition held annually to crown the national champions of the United States. The competition is sanctioned by U.S. Figure Skating.
