Charles Gilman Norris (April 23, 1881 – July 25, 1945) was an American novelist. A native of Chicago, Norris worked as a journalist for some years before finding success as a novelist and playwright. His first book was ''The Amateur'' (1916). His other novels include ''Salt'' (1919), ''Brass: A Novel of Marriage'' (1921), ''Bread'' (1923), ''Pig Iron'' (1926), ''Seed: A Novel of Birth Control'' (1930), ''Zest'' (1933), ''Hands'' (1935), and ''Flint'' (1944). He also published three plays: ''The Rout of the Philistines'' (with Nino Marcelli, 1922), ''A Gest of Robin Hood'' (with Robert C. Newell, 1929), and '' Ivanhoe: A Grove Play'' (1936). Charles Norris (etcher)
Charles Norris (24 August 1779 – 16 October 1858) was an English topographical etcher and writer who is best known for his landscape work of the Welsh countryside, especially the area around Tenby. History Norris was born in London in 1779, to John Norris (1721-1786), a wealthy merchant, by his mistress Deborah Busby. In 1800, Charles Norris moved to Milford in Wales, but by 1810 he had moved further down the coast to Tenby. He came to note as an etcher of landscapes of the Pembrokeshire countryside, but mainly of Tenby. Norris is seen as an important recorder of Medieval buildings of Pembrokeshire, due to the lack of alternative recordings during the period. In the late 1810s, Norris was given a plot of land by the Burgesses of Tenby, in recognition of his work in promoting the town. Charles Norris (December 4, 1867 – September 11, 1935) was New York's first appointed chief medical examiner (1918–1935) and pioneer of forensic toxicology in America. Early life Norris was born on December 4, 1867. He was first educated at Cutler's Private School in Manhattan, later entering Yale University and earning a bachelor of philosophy with emphasis on science. He then went to the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, earning a doctorate in medicine in 1892. Vice Admiral Sir Charles Fred Wivell Norris KBE CB DSO (16 December 1900 – 17 December 1989) was a Royal Navy officer who went on to be Commander-in-Chief, Far East Fleet. Naval career Norris joined the Royal Navy in 1913. He served in World War I and took part in the Battle of Jutland in 1916. After the War he became a student at Cambridge University. He also served in World War II as Second in Command of and then as Commander on HMS ''Bellona'' from 1943. He took part in the Normandy landings on Omaha Beach in 1944 and in the Murmansk Convoys in the Winter 1944 to 1945. Charles Albert Norris (23 July 1881 – 16 February 1940) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Collingwood and Fitzroy in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Norris remains the oldest player to debut in the VFL/AFL and go on to play 100 games. He was also a country field umpire with the VFL in 1921. Playing career Originally from California Gully, Norris came to Melbourne and played for Northcote in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) before receiving a transfer to Collingwood in July 1910. Charles Louis Marie William Norris-Newman (22 August 1852 – May 1920) was a British journalist, adventurer and intelligence officer with the Russian Navy. Carlos Ray "Chuck" Norris (born March 10, 1940) is an American martial artist and actor. He is a black belt in Tang Soo Do, Brazilian jiu jitsu and judo. After serving in the United States Air Force, Norris won many martial arts championships and later founded his own discipline Chun Kuk Do. Charles Reed Norris (April 15, 1925 – July 20, 2009) was an American politician, businessman, and military officer who served as a member of the Oregon House of Representatives. Early life Norris was born in Pasadena, California and was raised in Americus, Kansas, where he attended high school. He served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1971.
