Charles Nielson
Charles Frederick Nielson (6 February 1871 – 15 August 1924) was a solicitor, and member of both the Queensland Legislative Council and Queensland Legislative Assembly. Early years Nielson was born at Schleswig, Germany, to Peter Nielson and his wife, Magdalena (née Fredericksen). Maryborough Grammar School
Maryborough State High School (commonly abbreviated as 'MSHS') is an Independent Public School located in Maryborough, Queensland, Maryborough, Queensland, Australia. The school is run by the Queensland State Government, and is split on either side of Kent Street. The school colours are blue and brown. In 2022 MSHS had 1260 students (including 79 students identifying as Indigenous Australians, indigenous) with 102 teachers and 60 non-teaching staff (35 full-time equivalent). The Bundaberg Region is a local government area in the Wide Bay–Burnett region of Queensland, Australia, about north of Brisbane, the state capital. It is centred on the city of Bundaberg, and also contains a significant rural area surrounding the city. It was created in 2008 from a merger of the City of Bundaberg with the Shires of Burnett, Isis and Kolan. William Kidston
William Kidston (17 August 1849 – 25 October 1919) was an Australian bookseller, politician and Premier of Queensland, from January 1906 to November 1907 and again from February 1908 to February 1911. Early life William Kidston was born in Falkirk, Scotland on 17 August 1849, the son of an ironworker. He became an apprentice ironmoulder at age 13. He married Margaret Scott in 1874. Dissatisfied with ironmoulding, he emigrated to New South Wales with his family in 1882, and moved again to Queensland, arriving in Rockhampton at 1883. In Rockhampton, Kidston started a new career as a bookseller. During the early 1890s, growing industrial unrest pitted the newly formed trade union movement against the conservative colonial government led by Thomas McIlwraith in a series of strikes. ''The Northern Miner'' is an online newspaper published in Charters Towers, Queensland, Australia. History ''The Northern Miner'' was first established in 1872 by James Smith Reid. Reid established the paper only eight months after the discovery of gold in the regional Queensland town Charters Towers. In 1876 Reid sold the paper to Thadeus O'Kane. As the owner and editor of the Northern Miner, O’Kane devoted himself and the paper to improving the lives of the miners working in Charters Towers. Of the five newspapers published in the goldfields ''The Northern Miner'' was the only one to survive the downturn in gold mining. The paper is still being published today from the same Gill Street address it has been at since 1878. 1907 Queensland State Election
Elections were held in the Australian state of Queensland on 18 May 1907 to elect the 72 members of the state's Legislative Assembly. The election was the first one in which women had a right to vote. The election was the first held since Premier William Kidston, formerly of the Labour Party, had founded a new movement with his own supporters as well as the Parliamentary Conservatives. The end result of the election was an improvement in Kidston's position, although he was still in minority government with Labour support. The main opposition group was Robert Philp's Conservatives. The ''Fraser Coast Chronicle'' is an online newspaper serving the Fraser Coast area in Queensland, Australia. It was started as the Maryborough Chronicle, Wide Bay and Burnett Advertiser. History Charles Hardie Buzacott first published the ''Maryborough Chronicle, Wide Bay and Burnett Advertiser'' in Maryborough as a four-page tabloid, in his slab hut in Lennox Street in November 1860. It sold for sixpence and was read from Gayndah in the west and Childers in the north to Gympie in the south. In 1863, Buzacott sold his interests to William Swain Roberts and Joseph Robinson, who set out to "reflect the community's wants and opinions while boldly and distinctly enunciating our own views". As the rough river town turned into a respectable city, its newspaper became a bi-weekly in 1864, a tri-weekly in 1868 and a daily in 1882.
