Charles Moss (cyclist)
Charles Moss (6 March 1882 – 25 July 1963) was an English road racing cyclist who competed in the 1912 Summer Olympics. He was born in Ascott-under-Wychwood, Oxfordshire. He was part of the Great Britain team which won the silver medal in the team time trial. Ascott-under-Wychwood
Ascott-under-Wychwood is a village and civil parish in the Evenlode valley about south of Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, England. The 2011 Census recorded the parish's population as 560. Toponym The village is one of three named after the historic forest of Wychwood; the others being Shipton-under-Wychwood and Milton-under-Wychwood. “Ascott” is derived from the Old English ''ēast'' (east) and ''cot'' (cottage). Manor and castle Ascot d'Oilly Castle was built in about 1129–50 and a stone tower was added to it in the 13th century. The castle bailey is now occupied by the manor house, which is mainly 16th and 17th century but contains some 13th century buttressed and other stonework. Parish church Holy Trinity Church of England parish church was built in about 1200 in a transitional style from Norman to Early English. Cycling At The 1912 Summer Olympics – Men's Individual Time Trial
The men's individual time trial was a road bicycle racing event held as part of the cycling at the 1912 Summer Olympics programme. It was the first appearance of the event. The competition was held on Sunday July 7, 1912. The course was 320 kilometers (198.8 miles) long and the cyclists started at two minute interval. 123 cyclists from 16 nations competed. Road bicycle racing is the cycle sport discipline of road cycling, held primarily on Road surface, paved roads. Road racing is the most popular professional sport, professional form of bicycle racing, in terms of numbers of competitors, events and spectators.
