Charles Copeland Morse
Charles Copeland Morse (1842–1900) was an American businessman known as the "American Seed King". He co-founded the Ferry-Morse Seed Company, which became the world's leading flower and vegetable seed producer. Born in Thomaston, Maine, Morse came to California originally in 1859, lured by the California Gold Rush. After mining for a couple of years, he found his way to Santa Clara in 1862. Santa Clara was then a small town with an agricultural setting. Morse engaged in several occupations, among them that of a house painter. Charles Copeland Morse married Maria Josephine Victoria Langford in 1868. In 1877, he and A.L. Kellogg, a Methodist minister, pooled their money to buy a seed-growing enterprise, which became the leading seed producer on the West Coast. In 1930, the C.C. Morse and Co. merged with D.M. The F/V ''Charles W'', also known as Annie J Larsen, is a historic fishing schooner anchored in Petersburg, Alaska. At the time of its retirement in 2000, it was the oldest fishing vessel in the fishing fleet of Southeast Alaska, and the only known wooden fishing vessel in the entire state still in active service. Launched in 1907, she was first used in the halibut fisheries of Puget Sound and the Bering Sea as the ''Annie J Larsen''. In 1925 she was purchased by the Alaska Glacier Seafood Company, refitted for shrimp trawling, and renamed ''Charles W'' in honor of owner Karl Sifferman's father. The company was one of the pioneers of the local shrimp fishery, a business it began to phase out due to increasing competition in the 1970s. The ''Charles W'' was the last of the company's fleet of ships, which numbered twelve at its height. The boat was acquired in 2002 by the nonprofit Friends of the ''Charles W''. Charles Morse (20 August 1820 – 25 March 1883) was an English cricketer who played first-class cricket for Cambridge University, the Marylebone Cricket Club, the All-England team and other amateur teams between 1842 and 1862. He was born in Norwich, Norfolk and died at Dresden in Germany. Morse was educated at Dedham, Essex and at Trinity College, Cambridge. He played cricket as a lower-order right-handed batsman for the Cambridge University side from 1842 to 1844 and appeared in the University Match against Oxford University in all three seasons. But his only innings of note in this period was a score of 82 made for the MCC ''against'' Cambridge University in 1844; this proved to be his highest first-class score and his only score over 50 in a 20-year cricket career spanning 40 first-class games. Charles W. Morse (born October 11, 1960), known as Chuck Morse, is an American politician who served as president of the New Hampshire Senate and was once acting governor of New Hampshire. Morse has represented New Hampshire's 22nd State Senate district since 2010, having previously held the same office from 2002-2006. Chuck Morse is a American conservatism, conservative United States, American journalist, author and radio talk show host from Boston, Massachusetts. Morse ran a write-in campaign against incumbent Barney Frank for the 2006 elections, as he did not get enough certified signatures to appear on the ballot. The total possible percentage of votes Morse could have received as a write-in candidate in the 2006 election would be 1.2% of the total vote. In 2004, Morse lost 78–22% to Frank. Charles Morse Stotz was an architect, architectural historian, and preservationist. He is known for his extensive study of the architectural history of Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania. He was one of the architects to practice in the field of preservation. He was credited with arousing "public awarenesss of the rich and significant history of western Pennsylvania." Early life and career Stotz was born in 1898 in Ingram, Pennsylvania. His father, Edward Stotz, was a noted architect in Pittsburgh. Charles Hosmer Morse
Charles Hosmer Morse (September 23, 1833 – May 5, 1921) was an American businessman and philanthropist. Morse was born at St. Johnsbury, Vermont. He graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in 1850. Shortly after graduation he joined his uncle, Zelotus Hosmer, in the Boston office of E. & T. Fairbanks, marketing platform scales. He was promoted to the New York office, and then to Chicago, eventually establishing a branch that would go on to be known as Fairbanks-Morse corporation. He was also an early resident of and influential figure in the city of Winter Park, Florida. Morse was a prominent developer in Chicago, for whom Morse Avenue in far-north Rogers Park takes its name.
