Charles Mack (blackface Performer)
Charles Sellers (November 22, 1888, in White Cloud, Kansas – January 11, 1934) was an American minstrel show performer who worked in blackface under the stage name Charles Mack. He worked with John Swor and later George Moran as the Two Black Crows. He married Marian Robinson. They divorced in 1931. He later married Myrtle Buckley on July 24, 1932, in San Diego, California. He died on January 11, 1934, in Mesa, Arizona, in a car accident. He was driving when a tire blew out and the car overturned several times. His wife was injured but survived. Also in the car were his daughter, Mary Jane Mack, George Moran and Mack Sennett. The funeral arrangements were made by W. C. Fields and William S. Hart. Charles Emmett Mack
Charles Emmett Mack (November 25, 1900 – March 17, 1927), was an American film actor during the silent film era. He appeared in 17 films between 1916 and 1927. Biography Born Charles Emmett McNerney in Scranton, Pennsylvania, to an Irish family, at a young age Mack could speak three or four languages. One of Mack's early jobs was as a peanut vendor at the Ringling Brothers Circus. After that, he appeared in vaudeville, specializing in buck-and-wing dancing. Later he became a tour guide for D.W. Griffith's Mamaroneck Studios. After that he was Griffith's prop man, fetching all sorts of props for the director. One day, Griffith invited Mack to rehearse a scene from ''Dream Street'' with him. Mack enjoyed the part he had and thought Griffith was friendly. He ended up playing the lead. While filming ''America'' in 1924, a soldier's arm was blown off. Raise It Up (August Rush Song)
"Raise It Up" is a 2007 song written by Jamal Joseph, Charles Mack and Tevin Thomas for the motion picture ''August Rush''. "Raise It Up" is performed in the film by Jamia Simone Nash and Impact Repertory Theatre, an African-American youth theatre group based in Harlem. The song was produced by Joseph and Mack. In the film, August Rush (Freddie Highmore) wanders into Harlem and is drawn to a church by the voice of a young soloist named Hope (Nash) singing this song, which inspires him. Hope ultimately brings him to the attention of her pastor, Reverend James (Mykelti Williamson), who helps August further develop his talent. "Raise It Up" was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 80th Academy Awards; however, the nomination announcement originally said "Nominees to be determined".
