Charles Leach Hardy
Charles Leach Hardy (January 24, 1919 – December 24, 2010) was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the District of Arizona. Education and career Born in Los Angeles, California, Hardy was a Captain in the United States Army Field Artillery during World War II, from 1941 to 1946. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Arizona in 1947 and a Bachelor of Laws from the James E. Rogers College of Law at the University of Arizona in 1950. He was in private practice in Phoenix, Arizona from 1949 to 1952. He was a deputy county attorney of Maricopa County, Arizona from 1952 to 1955, entering private practice in Scottsdale, Arizona in 1956. He was an assistant state attorney general of Arizona from 1957 to 1959, returning to private practice in Phoenix from 1959 to 1966. Senior Status
Senior status is a form of semi-retirement for United States federal judges. To qualify, a judge in the Federal judiciary of the United States, federal court system must be at least 65 years old, and the sum of the judge's age and years of service as a federal judge must be at least 80 years. As long as senior judges carry at least a 25 percent caseload or meet other criteria for activity, they remain entitled to maintain a staffed office and chambers, including a secretary and their normal complement of law clerks, and they continue to receive annual cost-of-living increases. Senior judges vacate their seats on the bench, and the President of the United States, president may appoint new full-time judges to fill those seats. Some U.S. states have similar systems for senior judges. The United States Senate is the upper chamber of the United States Congress, with the House of Representatives being the lower chamber. James Earl Carter Jr. (born October 1, 1924) is an American politician who served as the 39th president of the United States from 1977 to 1981. A member of the Democratic Party (United States), Democratic Party, he previously served as the 76th governor of Georgia from 1971 to 1975 and as a Georgia state senator from 1963 to 1967.
