Charles L. Tutt Sr.
Charles Leaming Tutt Sr. (14 February 1864 – 21 January 1909) and his descendants are famous in Colorado Springs. He became a wealthy man by the time he was forty years old. Biography He was born February 14, 1864, in Philadelphia, as a son of a respected doctor, Charles Pendleton Tutt, and Rebecca (née Leaming). His father died of typhus when the boy was two years old. The Tutt ancestors had immigrated from England. One ancestor had served as Lord Mayor of London and another was a member of General George Washington's staff during the American Revolutionary War. Tutt attended the Protestant Episcopal Academy, where he met Spencer Penrose, nicknamed "Speck", and the two became friends. Both of their fathers had worked at the Children's Hospital. The Broadmoor (stylized as THE BRODMOOR) is a hotel and resort in the Broadmoor neighborhood of Colorado Springs, Colorado. The Wake are a British post-punk, synth-pop and later indie pop band, formed in Glasgow in 1981 by Gerard "Caesar" McInulty (formerly of Altered Images), Steven Allen (drums) and Joe Donnelly (bass), the latter replaced by Bobby Gillespie. Steven's sister Carolyn Allen also joined on keyboards, and remained in the band thereafter. Gillespie left the band in 1983, replaced by Martin Cunning and then by Alexander 'Mac' Macpherson. Golden Fleece Mine (Colorado)
The Golden Fleece Mine is a gold mining site in Hinsdale County, Colorado, south of Lake City. The mine is located half a mile west of the north end of Lake San Cristobal. By 1904 it had produced $1,400,000 in silver and gold ore. The mine operated intermittently until 1919. Later, in the mid-1960s, some renewed interest in the property came up, especially in the Hiwassee lode area of the mine, but other than a couple of small test shipments, there is no recorded production until today. The Golden Fleece Mine had much impact on the development of the whole area around Lake City. Joseph Raphael De Lamar (September 2, 1843 – December 1, 1918) was a prominent mine owner and operator in the western United States and Canada, as well as a financier and speculator, from the late 1870s until his death in 1918. Early life De Lamar was born in Amsterdam to Maximiliaan de la Mar (1814–1847) and Johanna Teune (1816–1867). His father, a banker in Amsterdam, died when Joseph had just turned four years old. In search of adventure, De Lamar stowed away aboard a Dutch vessel heading to the West Indies. When he was discovered, he was put to work without pay as assistant to the cook. De Lamar worked as a seaman until he was twenty, when he became master of a ship, and three years later received a captain's command. He visited many of the world's ports and acquired an education through his observations in foreign countries.
