The Charles Johnson House, at 301 E. 35th St. in Houston, Texas, was built around 1915. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997. It was one of the earliest houses built in the Independence Heights Independence Heights is a community in Houston, Texas, bordered by 40th Street east of N. Main and 40th Street west of N. The Super Neighborhood boundary created by the City of Houston is bordered by Tidwell to the north, Shepherd Drive to the west, Interstate 610 (Texas), the 610 Loop to the south, and Interstate 45 to the east. Black families started to migrate to Northern Houston known as the Independence Heights around 1908.
