Charles Graux (politician)
Charles Alexandre Louis Graux (4 January 1837 – 22 January 1910) was a Belgian lawyer, professor at the Universite Libre de Bruxelles, and a liberal politician. He co-founded ''La Liberté'' and the ''Ligue de l'Enseignement'', and was the director of ''La Discussion''. He was Belgium's Minister of Finance from 1879 to 1884. He was a member of Belgium's Chamber of Representatives from 1890 to 1894. The Chamber of Representatives (Dutch: , french: link=no, Chambre des représentants, german: link=no, Abgeordnetenkammer) is one of the two chambers in the bicameral Federal Parliament of Belgium, the other being the Senate. The Minister of State ( nl, Minister van Staat, french: Ministre d'État, german: Staatsminister) is an honorary title in Belgium. It is formally granted by the Belgian monarch, but on the initiative of the Belgian federal government. It is given on a personal basis, for life rather than for a specified period. The title is granted for exceptional merits, generally to senior politicians at the end of their party careers. It is not lost after a criminal conviction (Guy Spitaels, Willy Claes).
