Charles Garrett Maloney
Charles Garrett Maloney (9 September 1913 – 30 April 2006) served as the auxiliary bishop of Louisville and titular bishop of Bardstown, Kentucky. Education Maloney attended high school and college at Saint Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Indiana where he graduated ''summa cum laude''. He later attended the Pontifical North American College in Rome, Italy where he was eventually ordained. Ministry Maloney was ordained a priest in 1937. On 30 December 1954 Pope Pius XII appointed Maloney the auxiliary bishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Louisville; he served in the capacity for 51 years. He was consecrated as a Roman Catholic bishop in 1955 by Archbishop John Alexander Floersh at the Cathedral of the Assumption in Louisville, Kentucky. The Most Reverend is a style applied to certain religious figures, primarily within the historic denominations of Christianity, but occasionally in some more modern traditions also. It is a variant of the more common style "The Reverend". Anglican In the Anglican Communion, the style is applied to archbishops (including those who, for historical reasons, bear an alternative title, such as presiding bishop), rather than the style "The Right Reverend" which is used by other bishops. Daniel Edward Thomas (born June 11, 1959) is an American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. Since 2014, he has served as the eighth bishop of the Diocese of Toledo in Ohio. The Basilica of Saint Joseph Proto-Cathedral is a Catholic parish church at 310 West Stephen Foster Avenue in Bardstown, Kentucky. It is the original cathedral of the present Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Louisville, originally erected as the Diocese of Bardstown — "proto-cathedral" means the former cathedral of a see that has transferred or moved. During its years as a cathedral, the pastor was Benedict Joseph Flaget, the first bishop of Bardstown. Construction The cornerstone was laid on July 16, 1816, with construction beginning thereafter, with the use of slave labor. Materials used for its construction were found in the immediate area. The architect and builder was John Rogers of Baltimore. By 1819 it was sufficiently completed for Mass to be held. The interior was fully complete by 1823.
