Charles Furneaux (TV Producer)
Charles St John Wallace Furneaux (born 1957) is a British television producer and documentary maker. He began his career as an Assistant Producer with the BBC, becoming a Commissioning Editor at Channel 4 in 1994. Furneaux then went to Talkback Thames in 2003 as Head of Specialist Factual and Documentaries resigning in 2007 to manage his own production company, Kaboom Film & TV. Career Award-winning productions of Furneaux include ''The Natural History of the Chicken'', which won an Emmy Award in the category of 'Outstanding Science and Nature Programming- Long Form' in 2002. Channel 4 is a British free-to-air public broadcast television network operated by the state-owned enterprise, state-owned Channel Four Television Corporation. Up Series
The ''Up'' series of documentary films follows the lives of ten males and four females in England beginning in 1964, when they were seven years old. The first film was titled ''Seven Up!'', with later films adjusting the number in the title to match the age of the subjects at the time of filming. The documentary has had nine episodes—one every seven years—thus spanning 56 years. The series has been produced by Granada Television for ITV, which has broadcast all of them except ''42 Up'' (1998), which was broadcast on BBC One. Individual films and the series as a whole have received numerous accolades; in 1991 the then-latest instalment, ''28 Up'', was chosen for Roger Ebert's list of the ten greatest films of all time. ''Right to Reply'' (sometimes called ''R2R'') is a British television series shown on Channel 4 from 1982 until 2001, which allowed viewers to voice their complaints or concerns about TV programmes. It featured reports, usually presented by a viewer, and interviews with the programme-makers concerned. History ''Right to Reply'' was more serious and less humorous than its BBC equivalent '' Points of View''. Michael Apted
Michael David Apted, (10 February 1941 – 7 January 2021) was a British television and film director and producer. Apted began working in television and directed the '' Up'' documentary series (1964–2019). He later directed '' Coal Miner's Daughter'' (1980), which was nominated for seven Academy Awards including Best Picture. His subsequent work included ''Gorillas in the Mist'' (1988), ''Nell'' (1994), ''James Bond'' film ''The World Is Not Enough'' (1999), and ''Enigma'' (2001). His film ''Amazing Grace'' (2006) premiered at the closing of the Toronto International Film Festival that year. On 29 June 2003, he was elected president of the Directors Guild of America, a position he served until 2009.
