Charles Frederick Huth
Charles Frederick Huth (1806–1895) was a British merchant banker, and art collector. He was a partner in Frederick Huth & Co, the bank founded by his father, Frederick Huth. Early life Charles Frederick Huth was born on 7 November 1806 at Corunna, Spain. Career Huth was an art collector, especially of British watercolours, including J. M. W. Turner, and his collection was sold at Christie's on 19 March 1904. Personal life In 1836, Huth married Frances Caroline Marshall (1812–1901), the daughter of Sir Chapman Marshall and Anne Stansfield, and they lived at Tunbridge Wells, Kent, in later life. Frederick Huth & Co
Frederick Huth & Company was a British bank established in 1809, which became part of British Overseas Bank in 1936. History In 1809, Frederick Huth (1777-1864), a lutheran German-born British merchant, established the London merchant bank "Frederick Huth & Co". Huth started speculating on his own account and acted as agent for other merchants. The business grew rapidly, specialising in trade with Germany, Spain and South America. Soon, Huth provided credits and advances to other merchants. By 1850 Huth was one of London's leading merchant banks. Following Frederick Huth's retirement in the 1850s, the bank was managed by Daniel Meinertzhagen (1801-1869), Frederick Huth's son-in-law and father of Richard Meinertzhagen (1878-1967). Frederick Huth
Frederick Huth, formerly known as Johann Friedrich Andreas Huth (1777–1864), was a German-born British merchant banker, who established the London merchant bank Frederick Huth & Co in 1809. Professional career Frederick Huth was born on the 29 October 1777 in the German town of Stade, then part of the Electorate of Hanover (Lower Saxony, Germany). He was the second son of Johann Friedrich Huth (d. 1801), a soldier of the Scharnhorst regiment, and his wife, Marie Amelia (d. 1812), daughter of Johann Thee, farmer. The family settled in 1781 at nearby Harsefeld, where Johann Huth worked as a tailor and where Friedrich attended local schools. In 1791 Huth was apprenticed to Brentano Urbieta & Co., a Spanish merchant house at Hamburg. In 1797 he moved to Spain, and he also lived in South America before settling in London and establishing Frederick Huth & Co., which became one of London's leading banking houses. Tunbridge Wells
Royal Tunbridge Wells is a town in Kent, England, southeast of central London. It lies close to the border with East Sussex on the northern edge of the Weald, High Weald, whose sandstone geology is exemplified by the rock formation High Rocks. Alfred Henry Huth
Alfred Henry Huth (1850–1910) was an English bibliophile. From a banking family, he followed his father Henry Huth's interest in book collecting, and helped found the Bibliographical Society of London. Life Born in London on 14 January 1850, he was second son of Henry Huth and Augusta, third daughter of Frederick Westenholz of Waldenstein Castle in Austria. When not quite 12, Huth was taken away, with an elder brother, from school at Carshalton, to travel in the Middle East under the care of Henry Thomas Buckle, the historian. The tour, which began on 20 October 1861, was broken off by the death of Buckle at Damascus on 29 May 1862. Huth's education was continued at Rugby School in 1864, and later at the University of Berlin.
