Charles Spencer Francis
Charles Spencer Francis (June 17, 1853 – December 1, 1911) was an American diplomat and newspaper editor. Early life and education The son of diplomat and newspaper publisher John M. Francis and Harriet E. Tucker, Charles Spencer Francis was born on June 17, 1853. He studied at Cornell University from 1870 to 1871, before joining his father in Greece as his secretary. His mission completed, Francis thus returned to the United States and Cornell in 1874. At Cornell, Francis proved to be an excellent rower, setting the world record in intercollegiate single scull competition in 1876 (which stood long after his death, up until his grandson also attended Cornell). He graduated from Cornell the next year with a Bachelor of Science degree. Charles Robert Francis
Charles Robert Francis (May 19, 1875 – July 15, 1946) was a Marine who received the Medal of Honor for actions on June 21, 1900, near Tianjin, China during the Boxer Rebellion. Francis was born in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, and was a private. He later obtained the rank of sergeant major. Sergeant Major Francis is buried at Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Charles Francis (politician)
Charles Hugh Francis (15 July 1924 – 14 August 2009) was an Australian politician. He was born in Belgrave to medical practitioner Shirley Elliston Francis and Constance Mary Varley. He was educated at Belgrave, Camberwell and Melbourne Grammar Schools before studying at the University of Sydney, where he received bachelor's degrees of Arts, Law and Commerce. From 1942 to 1945 he served in the Royal Australian Air Force. He was a barrister from 1949, and on 28 October 1953 married Babette Avita Saldanha, with whom he had eight children. A member of the Liberal Party, he was Chairman of the Monash electoral committee from 1969 to 1975 and president of the Stonnington branch for the party from 1970 to 1973. He took silk in 1969, and from 1969 to 1979 was judge advocate with the Royal Australian Air Force Reserve. Charles Francis (born August 17, 1988) is a Canadian competitor swimmer and backstroker. He was born in the small town of Cowansville, Quebec. Francis competed at the 2007 Pan American Games, but failed to qualify for the 2008 Summer Olympics. Francis also competed at the 2011 World Aquatics Championships in Shanghai, his best result being a 16th-place finish in the 50-metre backstroke event.
