Charles Emerson Waters
Charles Emerson "Dink" Waters (November 25, 1910 – August 29, 1979) was an American politician who served in the Georgia State Senate. Early life Waters was born on November 25, 1910, in Ellijay, Georgia, the son of Emerson Franklin Waters and Sallie (Greer) Waters. He attended Ellijay High School in 1927 and the U.S. Military Academy in 1929. Political career Waters, a fourth generation Republican, began his political career serving as a state delegate to the 1948 Republican National Convention pledged to the Dewey–Warren ticket. He served as mayor pro temp of Ellijay from 1950 to 1951. He would later attend the 1952, 1956, 1960, and 1964 Republican Conventions. Waters served two terms in the Georgia State Senate: from 1955 to 1956 and 1961–1962. He was elected to Georgia's 41st District, representing the ancestrally Republican Fannin and Pickens counties. Ellijay, Georgia
Ellijay is a city in Gilmer County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,619 at the 2010 census. The city is the county seat of Gilmer County. Agriculture is important in Gilmer County, known as the "Apple Capital of Georgia." The city holds an annual Georgia Apple Festival in October. Former President Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn own a pine cabin second home in Ellijay. Other tourists are attracted to the mountains and whitewater kayaking. The 1960 Republican National Convention was held in Chicago, Illinois, from July 25 to July 28, 1960, at the International Amphitheatre. It was the 14th and most recent time overall that Chicago hosted the Republican National Convention, more times than any other city. The convention nominated Vice President Richard M. Nixon for president and former Senator Henry Cabot Lodge Jr. of Massachusetts for vice president. Evans County, Georgia
Evans County is a county in the southeastern portion of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 10,774. The county seat is Claxton. A bill creating the county was passed in the Georgia General Assembly on August 11, 1914, and later, on November 3, 1914, an amendment was ratified by a vote of the people which formally created the county. Evans County is located in an area known as the Magnolia Midlands within the Historic South region. The current Evans County Courthouse was created in 1923 and, in 1940, the people of Evans County elected their first female sheriff. Pickens County is a county located in the north-central portion of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2010 census, the population was 29,431. The county seat is Jasper. Pickens County is part of the Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Roswell, Georgia metropolitan statistical area.
