Charles Edward Mallet
Sir Charles Edward Mallet (2 December 1862 – 21 November 1947), was a British historian and Liberal Party (UK), Liberal politician. He was knighted in 1917. Life He was the only son of the activist Louisa Mallet, Louisa (born Udny) and Charles Mallet, a civil servant. He was educated at Balliol College, Oxford, and was admitted to Middle Temple on 21 May 1886. He was Called to the Bar on 3 July 1889. He first stood for parliament at the 1900 General Election when he was the unsuccessful Liberal candidate for the Conservative seat of Salford West (UK Parliament constituency), Salford West. Mallet was returned to Parliament for Plymouth (UK Parliament constituency), Plymouth in 1906. Sir Frederick Thomson, 1st Baronet
Sir Frederick Charles Thomson, 1st Baronet, (27 May 1875 – 21 April 1935) was a Scottish Unionist politician and lawyer. Life He was the third son of James Wishart Thomson of Glenpark, Balerno, Midlothian; James was a son of William Thomson, co-founder of the Ben Line. Educated at Edinburgh Academy, University College, Oxford and at the University of Edinburgh, he was called to the Scottish bar in 1901, and to the English bar in 1904. He served in Egypt as a lieutenant with the Scottish Horse and in Salonika with the Lovat Scouts, where he was severely wounded. Sir Francis Dyke Acland, 14th Baronet, (7 March 1874 – 9 June 1939) was a British Liberal politician. Arthur Shirley Benn, 1st Baron Glenravel, (20 December 1858 – 13 June 1937), known as Sir Arthur Benn, Bt, between 1926 and 1936, was a British businessman and politician. Early life He was born on 20 December 1858, in Cork, Ireland, the son of Reverend John Watkins Benn. He received his formal education at Clifton College, then at Inner Temple. Waldorf Astor, 2nd Viscount Astor, DL (19 May 1879 – 30 September 1952) was an American-born English politician and newspaper proprietor. He was a member of the Astor family. Aneurin Williams (11 October 1859 – 20 January 1924) was a British Liberal Party politician. Background He was born in Dowlais, Glamorganshire, the second son of Edward Williams, CE, JP, ironmaster, of Cleveland Lodge, Middlesbrough. A member of parliament (MP) is the representative in parliament of the people who live in their electoral district. In many countries with bicameral parliaments, this term refers only to members of the lower house since upper house members often have a different title. The terms congressman/congresswoman or deputy are equivalent terms used in other jurisdictions.
