Charles Drake (American Football)
Charles Edward Drake III (September 5, 1981 – July 6, 2012) was an American football player who was picked in the 7th round of the 2003 NFL draft and played briefly in the National Football League. Drake also played professionally in the Austrian Football League and NFL Europe. A native of Los Angeles, Drake played high school football at Westchester High School, where he was selected as an all-city running back. Drake committed to play college football at the University of Michigan as part of the incoming class of 1999. He played at Michigan from 1999 to 2002. He was converted to a defensive back as a sophomore in 2000. He was the starting safety in nine games for the 2001 Michigan team and a starter at cornerback in 13 games for the 2002 team. After his senior year at Michigan, Drake was selected to participate in the 2003 NFL Combine. Frankfurt Galaxy (NFL Europe)
The Frankfurt Galaxy were a professional American football team that originally played in the World League of American Football and later in the resurrected NFL Europe. The team was based in Frankfurt, Germany and played in the Commerzbank-Arena, formerly called Waldstadion. The Galaxy was the only team in the league to have remained in operation and in the same city throughout the league's existence. As of 2021, an unrelated team of the same name plays in the European League of Football. History In 1991, the Galaxy was a founding member of the World League of American Football ( WLAF). They hosted the first ever WLAF game against the London Monarchs at the Waldstadion on March 23, 1991, and scored the first ever WLAF points with a safety, but lost the game. Rhein Fire (NFL Europe)
The Rhein Fire was a professional football team in the NFL Europe, formerly the World League of American Football. Established in Germany in 1995, the franchise resurrected the name of the former Birmingham Fire team which was active during the 1991–1992 WLAF seasons. History The team was based in Düsseldorf (and early on was occasionally referred to in the U.S. as the Düsseldorf Fire), playing its games in LTU arena since 2005 season. Prior to this the team played in Rheinstadion until 2002 and in FC Schalke 04's Arena AufSchalke from 2003 to 2004 in nearby city Gelsenkirchen while LTU arena was being built. Safety is a position in gridiron football on the American football positions#Defense, defense. The safeties are defensive backs who line up ten to fifteen yards from the line of scrimmage. There are two variations of the position: the free safety and the strong safety. Their duties depend on the defensive scheme. The defensive responsibilities of the safety and cornerback usually involve pass coverage towards the middle and sidelines of the field. While American (11-player) formations generally use two safeties, Canadian (12-player) formations generally have one safety and two Halfback (Canadian football), defensive halfbacks, a position not used in the American game.
