Charles David (architect)
Charles David (1552 – 4 December 1650) was a 16th/17th-century French architect. He married Anne Lemercier, daughter of architect Nicolas Lemercier in 1582 and succeeded his father-in-law as architect of the church of Saint-Eustache, Paris in 1585. David was responsible for the construction of the choir, which was completed in 1637. Charles David is an American fashion company known for their design of shoes, founded by David and Charles Malka. History and operations The family-owned company was founded by David and Charles Malka. It began Canadian distribution of shoes in the 1970s, followed by the U.S. distribution of European shoes in 1987. Their first retail store opened at the Côte-des-Neiges Plaza in Montreal, Quebec, Canada in the early 1970s. They opened and operated several chains in Canada until they moved their operations to Los Angeles, California in 1988. In the spring of 2004, Charles David launched their lower price lines, Charles by Charles David and Exchange by Charles David. USCGC ''Charles David Jr'' is the seventh . Upon her commissioning she was assigned to serve in Key West, Florida, as the first of six vessels to be based there. She was delivered to the Coast Guard, for testing, on August 17, 2013. She was officially commissioned on November 16, 2013. Namesake The vessel is named after Charles Walter David Jr., who served as a Steward's Mate 1st Class in the United States Coast Guard. David was serving aboard escorting a convoy that included . David was one of the ''Comanche'' crew members who volunteered to dive into the frigid waters to rescue exhausted crew and passengers from ''Dorchester''. David also rescued several other ''Comanche'' crew members, who grew exhausted. David came down with pneumonia after the exertion of the rescue, dying a few days later. Charles Wendell David
Charles Wendell David (1885–1984) was a noted American bibliophile, medievalist and librarian. He worked tirelessly both to reconstruct Europe's war-torn repositories and to establish new libraries in the United States. Biography David went to college on scholarships, earning a doctorate from Harvard in 1918 and achieved a Rhodes scholarship before returning to establish his academic career at Harvard and Bryn Mawr. David pioneered the "open access" concept of the college library, throwing open the doors to all students (as opposed to traditional "classed" libraries open only to faculty, "upper" or "lower" classmen) before arriving in Philadelphia to serve the University of Pennsylvania as its first Director of Libraries, where he transformed their dilapidated collection into America's first centralized, open-access library in its modern form.
