Charles C. Van Zandt
Charles Collins Van Zandt (August 10, 1830 – June 4, 1894) was the 34th Governor of Rhode Island. Early life He was born in Newport, Rhode Island. He graduated from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, class of 1851. He then studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1853. In 1863 he married Arazelia, daughter of the judge and poet Albert Gorton Greene.''The National Cyclopaedia of American Biography'', 13 vols, 1898. Political career In 1855, Van Zandt was elected City Solicitor of Newport and was chosen clerk of the Rhode Island House of Representatives. In 1857, he was himself elected to the House. Albert Howard (Rhode Island)
Albert Crawford Howard (February 29, 1828 – July 3, 1910) was an American politician. Between 1877 and 1880 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Rhode Island. Career Albert Howard was the younger brother of Henry Howard (1826-1905) who was Governor of Rhode Island between 1873 and 1875. The sources do not give much information about his life and work. He spent most of his life in Providence County, Rhode Island, where he was involved in commerce and politics. During the civil war he served as a captain in the Union Army. In 1876, he stood unsuccessfully for Governor of Rhode Island as a National Republican and Prohibition Party candidate. In 1877, Howard was elected Lieutenant Governor of Rhode Island as a Republican alongside Charles C. Van Zandt. He held this office between 1877 and 1880. Albert Gorton Greene (February 10, 1802 – January 3, 1868) was an American judge and poet. Biography Albert Gorton Greene was born in Providence, Rhode Island on February 10, 1802. Graduating from Brown University in 1820, Greene was admitted to the bar of Rhode Island in 1823. In 1832 he was elected clerk of the City Council and clerk of the Municipal Court. He was Judge of the Municipal Court from 1858 to 1867, when he retired from ill-health to live with his daughter in Cleveland, Ohio. Charles Cutler
Lieutenant-Colonel Sir Charles Benjamin Cutler KBE, ED (20 April 1918 – 23 September 2006) was an Australian politician, holding office for 28 years as an elected member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly for Orange. Cutler was Country Party leader for sixteen years and became Minister for Education and Deputy Premier for ten years under Premiers Robert Askin and Tom Lewis. Early life Charles Cutler was born in Forbes in 1918, the son of George Cutler and Elizabeth Booth Cutler. His cousin, Sir Arthur Roden Cutler, was a Victoria Cross recipient and a long-serving Governor of New South Wales. Henry Howard (April 2, 1826 – September 22, 1905) was an American lawyer and politician. He served as the 32nd Governor of Rhode Island from 1873 to 1875. Early life Howard was born in Cranston, Rhode Island to Jesse and Mary Howard. He attended Smithville Seminary and in 1848 he studied law in the office of future Rhode Island Governor William W. Hoppin. In 1851, he was admitted to the Rhode Island Bar and began a private law practice. Career While serving in the Rhode Island General Assembly, Howard was a delegate to the 1856 Republican National Convention which nominated John C. Fremont as the Republican presidential candidate.
