Charles Burnett (; born April 13, 1944) is an American film director, film producer, writer, editor, actor, photographer, and cinematographer. His most popular films include ''Killer of Sheep'' (1978), ''My Brother's Wedding'' (1983), ''To Sleep with Anger'' (1990), ''The Glass Shield'' (1994), and '' Namibia: The Struggle for Liberation'' (2007). Charles John Burnett is a Scottish antiquarian and former officer of arms. Burnett was born in 1940 and educated at Gray's School of Art in Aberdeen, and the University of Edinburgh. He has worked for a number of museums, including: Letchworth Museum, the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland, the National War Museum, Scottish United Services Museum at Edinburgh Castle, and Duff House, Banff, Aberdeenshire, Banff Burnett was appointed Dingwall Pursuivant of Arms in Ordinary in 1983 and promoted to Ross Herald of Arms in Ordinary in 1988. He retired as an officer of arms in ordinary in 2010 and was appointed Ross Herald Extraordinary for a period of five years, demitting office on 31 December 2015. His 1992 M.Litt thesis at the University of Edinburgh was entitled ''The Officers of Arms and heraldic art under King James Sixth & First 1567-1625''. Charles Burnett (RAF Officer)
Air Chief Marshal Sir Charles Stuart Burnett, (3 April 1882 – 9 April 1945) was a senior commander in the Royal Air Force during the first half of the 20th century. He was Air Officer Commanding Iraq Command during the early 1930s. During the Second World War, he served as Chief of the Air Staff of the Royal Australian Air Force. Early life Charles Burnett was born in Browns Valley, Minnesota, United States on 3 April 1882. He was the second son of John Alexander Burnett and Charlotte Susan Burnett. John Burnett was originally from the Scottish village of Kemnay in Aberdeenshire. Burnett was educated at Bedford School in England. His younger brother was Robert Burnett who was later knighted and rose to the rank of admiral. Charles Hiram Burnett (1847 – January 9, 1916), was the first Treasurer of the City of Seattle 1869-1872, a commission merchant and the General Superintendent of various coal mines in King and Pierce Counties on Puget Sound in the state of Washington. Family Burnett was the son of Hiram Burnett and Elizabeth Merriam Gibbs Burnett of Seattle, Washington. He married Jeanette Campbell McLean and they had two children Amy Louise and Charles Hiram Jr. When his wife died young he continued living with his in laws, his mother in law Georgia McLean for almost forty years from his marriage to her daughter to her decease. His son Charles Hiram Burnett Jr. was a Seattle City Councilor, President of the Seattle City Council and Acting Mayor of Seattle. Charles Harris Burnett (24 June 1875 – 7 January 1947) was a New Zealand politician of the Labour Party. Early life and family Born on his parents' farm at Fordell near Wanganui on 24 June 1875, Burnett was the son of Cornelius Burnett, a barrister and solicitor, and Lily Marion Burnett (née Harris). He was educated at Wanganui Collegiate School, and went farming when he was 16 years old, going on to farm on the property where he was born for 25 years. He was involved in the establishment of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, and was a life member of the Wanganui Agricultural Society. On 9 October 1901, Burnett married Helen Mary Burr at Omanaia in the Hokianga, and the couple went on to have four children. General Sir Charles John Burnett (30 October 1843 – 10 November 1915) was a British Army officer at the end of the 19th century and during the early years of the 20th century. Military career Burnett was born in St Kilda, Victoria, the son of John Alexander Burnett.Kowner, '' Historical Dictionary of the Russo-Japanese War'', p. 79. He was commissioned into the 15th Foot in 1861. He participated in the Third Anglo-Ashanti War of 1873 to 1874, then attended and graduated from the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. He next saw active service in the Second Anglo-Afghan War of 1878 to 1880. Burnett became assistant adjutant-general in Bombay in 1880 and commanding officer of the Royal Irish Rifles in 1887. He rose to be assistant adjutant-general at Aldershot in 1893. Inspiration holds the World Land Speed Record for a steam-powered vehicle on 25 August 2009, driven by Charles Burnett III with an average speed of over two consecutive runs over a measured mile. This broke the and longest-standing land speed record set in 1906 by Fred Marriott in the Stanley Steamer. On 26 August 2009 the car, driven by Don Wales, broke a second record by achieving an average speed of over two consecutive runs over a measured kilometre. The runs were made at Edwards Air Force Base in California, United States. The car is 7.6 m long, 1.7 m wide and weighs 3 tons.
