Charles Beautron Major
Charles Beautron Major (March 18, 1851 – May 15, 1924) was a lawyer, judge and political figure in Quebec. He represented Ottawa electoral district in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec from 1897 to 1904 and Labelle in the House of Commons of Canada from 1907 to 1911 as a Liberal. He was born in Sainte-Scholastique, Canada East, the son of Joseph Beautron dit Major and Elmire Biroleau. His father was a leader in the Lower Canada Rebellion. In 1876, Major married Cymodocie Trudel,. He was admitted to the Quebec bar in 1877 and set up practice in Montreal with Raymond Préfontaine. He later moved to Papineauville and then to Hull, where he practised with Hyacinthe-Adélard Fortier, who became his son-in-law in 1901. Major was a promoter and later director of the Northern Colonization Railway. He served as mayor of Papineauville and was warden for Ottawa County in 1891 and 1892. Labelle (electoral District)
Labelle was a federal electoral district in Quebec, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1896 to 1988. This riding was created in 1892 from parts of the County of Ottawa riding. The electoral district was abolished in 1987 when it was redistributed into the new riding of Laurentides and the existing riding of Pontiac—Gatineau—Labelle. The district's most prominent MP was Quebec nationalist Henri Bourassa. Ottawa (County of) () was a federal electoral district in Quebec in the House of Commons of Canada from 1867 to 1892. It was based in the Outaouais region of Quebec, across the Ottawa River from the city of Ottawa, Ontario. Hyacinthe-Adélard Fortier
Hyacinthe-Adélard Fortier (11 December 1875 – 18 January 1966) was a lawyer, judge and political figure in Quebec. He represented Labelle in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec from 1912 to 1917 and Labelle in the House of Commons of Canada from 1917 to 1925 as a Liberal. He was born in Saint-Hermas, Quebec, the son of Isidore Fortier and Elmire Lalande, and was educated at the Séminaire de Sainte-Thérèse and the Université Laval. Fortier articled with Dandurand et Brodeur, was called to the Quebec bar in 1899 and set up practise in Hull with Charles Beautron Major. He married his partner's daughter Anne-Marie Major in 1901. Fortier was crown attorney for Ottawa district and was bâtonnier for Hull district from 1912 to 1916. He served on the municipal council for Hull in 1912. Papineauville is a town and municipality in the Outaouais region of Quebec, Canada. It is the seat of the Papineau Regional County Municipality. In 2001 its population was 2247. The municipality is bordered on the north side by the Petite-Nation River and on the south side by Pentecost Bay of the Ottawa River. History The Parish of Sainte-Angélique was formed in 1851, and the parish municipality with the same name was created in 1855. It was named after Angélique-Louise Cornud, wife of Denis-Benjamin Papineau, who donated land for the construction of the church and the rectory. Raymond Préfontaine
Joseph Raymond Fournier Préfontaine, (16 September 1850 – 25 December 1905) was a Canadian politician. Biography Born in Longueuil, Quebec, he studied at the law faculty of McGill College, articled with Antoine-Aimé Dorion and Christophe-Alphonse Geoffrion, and was called to the bar in 1873. He was named a Queen's Counsel in 1899. In 1875, he was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Quebec for the riding of Chambly. A Liberal, he was defeated in 1878. He was re-elected in an 1879 by-election, but was defeated again in 1881. He was acclaimed to the House of Commons of Canada for the riding of Chambly in an 1886 by-election. A Liberal, he was re-elected in every election in one or another riding until dying in office in 1905. From 1902 to 1905, he was the Minister of Marine and Fisheries.
