Charleroi Danses
Charleroi Danses (Le Centre Chorégraphique de la Communauté Française Wallonie-Bruxelles) is the choreography center of the French Community of Belgium. History The company originated with the Royal Ballet of Wallonia, (Ballet Royale de Wallonie), founded in 1966, which was brought under the direction of Frédéric Flamand in 1991. He renamed the company Charleroi/Danse and shifted the focus of the troupe entirely onto modern dance. Frédéric Flamand directed the company between 1991 and 2004 and made the institution well known not only in Belgium but also internationally. In September 2004 he was appointed artistic director of Ballet National de Marseille. After a call for candidates for his succession, the board proposed to the Minister of Culture Fadila Laanan a four-headed structure. Frédéric Flamand
Frédéric Flamand (born 1946 in Brussels) is a Belgian actor, director, and choreographer. Biography Flamand founded the Plan K contemporary dance company in 1973. From 1979, it occupied a former sugar refinery in Molenbeek. He was interested in interdisciplinary work and hosted artists such as Bob Wilson, William S. Burroughs, Steve Lacy, Decouflé, Marie Chouinard, Joy Division, and the Eurythmics. As director and choreographer, Flamand worked with many architects, including Fabrizio Plessi, Elizabeth Diller, Ricardo Scofidio, Zaha Hadid, Jean Nouvel, Thom Mayne, and more recently, Dominique Perrault and the Campana brothers, working to connect the dancer's body to the surrounding architecture. Ballet National De Marseille
The Ballet National de Marseille is a dance company based in Marseille, France. The company combines modern dance and classical ballet. Overview The Ballet National de Marseille was founded by the dancer and choreographer Roland Petit in 1972. The company's first production was the ''Pink Floyd Ballet''. Roland Petit's young daughter had given him a Pink Floyd album and told him he should make a ballet from it. The idea matured, and the ballet eventually debuted in Marseille at the Palais des Sports. The band itself performed at the first show. Since then the ''Pink Floyd Ballet'' has been staged several times in cities around the world. Pierre Droulers
Pierre Droulers (born 5 July 1951 in La Madeleine, France) is a French and Belgian choreographer and dancer. He spent three years in artistic training at Maurice Béjart's Mudra School in Brussels and then studied with Jerzy Grotowski in Poland. Later, he participated in Bob Wilson's workshops in Paris. In 1978, during a trip in New York City, he discovered Steve Paxton's work which was a source of inspiration. Since September 2005, he has been co-directing Charleroi/Danses, the Choreographic Centre of the French Community, with Michèle Anne De Mey, Thierry De Mey and Vincent Thirion. Thierry De Mey
Thierre De Mey (born 28 February 1956 in Brussels) is a musician and filmmaker from Belgium. Biography After studying film at the Institut des Arts de Diffusion, he continued to studying music composition and contemporary dance after meeting Fernand Schirren, for whose works he has written original incidental music. He works primarily with Rosas & Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Wim Vandekeybus and Michèle Anne De Mey, his youngest sister. He is the founder of the contemporary music ensemble Maximalist!, and he has participated in other important projects such as and Ictus Ensemble, for which he has composed several works. In 1993 he joined a class at IRCAM, where he developed his interest in electronic music. He was composer in residence at the Conservatory of Strasbourg and the Musica Festival in 2001 and 2002.
