The Charity of Lima ( es, Beneficencia de Lima), officially the Society of Charity of Metropolitan Lima ( es, Sociedad de Beneficencia de Lima Metropolitana), is a charitable organisation that serves the city of Lima, in Peru. It is headquartered at the Casa de Divorciadas, an 18th-century building in the historic centre of Lima. History It was founded on June 12, 1834, through a Supreme Decree of General Luis José de Orbegoso y Moncada, provisional president of Peru, and through him it was in charge of the charitable establishments of Lima. This institution was responsible for the first lotteries in the country, the Lima and Callao Lottery. In 2009, it became a public organisation directly attached to the Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations, Ministry of Women and Social Development, after ceasing to be a subsidiary of the National Comprehensive Program for Family Welfare (INABIF) of the same ministry; and later in 2011 it became administered by the Metropolitan Municip ...
