Chapter 27
''Chapter 27'' is a 2007 Biographical film, biographical Drama (film and television), drama film depicting the murder of John Lennon by Mark David Chapman. It was written and directed by Jarrett Schaefer, based on the 1992 book ''Let Me Take You Down'' by Jack Jones, produced by Robert Salerno, and stars Jared Leto as Chapman. The film takes place in December 1980, and is intended to be an exploration of Chapman's Psyche (psychology), psyche. Its title is a reference to J. D. Salinger's 1951 novel ''The Catcher in the Rye'', which has 26 chapters, and suggests a continuation of the book. As an independent film, independent production, it was picked up for distribution by Peace Arch Entertainment and premiered at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival where it received polarized reactions from critics. Jarrett Schaefer (born 1979) is an American film director and screenwriter. His feature debut, ''Chapter 27'' (2007), premiered and received substantial media and critical attention at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival. Biography Born on a U.S. Air Force base in Germany but raised in the United States, Schaefer studied film writing at University of Southern California, in Los Angeles, California. Robert Rosen is an American writer born in Brooklyn, New York, on July 27, 1952. He is the author of '' Nowhere Man: The Final Days of John Lennon'', a controversial account of the ex-Beatle's last five years, based on Rosen’s memory of Lennon’s diaries. His second book, ''Beaver Street: A History of Modern Pornography'', was published by Headpress in the U.K. in 2011 and in the U.S. in 2012.
