Chapra Christ Church
Chapra Christ Church commonly known as Chapra Church is one of the oldest Christian church in Nadia district. It is situated in Bangaljhi, Chapra, Nadia, Chapra in the Indian state of West Bengal. History Chapra was the center of Missionary works of Meherpur District, Meherpur sub division of undivided Bengal. In 1839 the German Missionaries Rev. C. Cruckeberg and Mr. P. Ansorge started the missionary work at Chapra. The Church was built in 1840 and work of the church commenced in 1941. A school was started in 1850 under the governance of Chapra Church. This is a Roman Catholic church, Roman Catholic Church. The new church was built in 1959 and dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Presently it is a sub-station of Krishnagar Church. Nadia District
Nadia () is a district in the state of West Bengal, India. It borders Bangladesh to the east, North 24 Parganas and Hooghly districts to the south, Purba Bardhaman to the west, and Murshidabad to the north. Nadia district is highly influential in the cultural history of Bengal. The standard version of Bengali, developed in the 19th century, is based off the dialect spoken around Nadia. Chapra is a census town and a gram panchayat in the Chapra CD block in the Krishnanagar Sadar subdivision of the Nadia district in the state of West Bengal, India. Geography Location Chapra is located at . Area overview Nadia district is mostly alluvial plains lying to the east of Hooghly River, locally known as Bhagirathi. The alluvial plains are cut across by such distributaries as Jalangi, Churni and Ichhamati. With these rivers getting silted up, floods are a recurring feature. The Krishnanagar Sadar subdivision, presented in the map alongside, has the Bhagirathi on the west, with Purba Bardhaman district lying across the river. The long stretch along the Bhagirathi has many swamps.
