''Transformers: The War Within'' (or simply ''TWW and WWi'') is a series of comic book mini-series written by Simon Furman and published by Dreamwave Productions featuring Generation One characters with brand new pre-Earth designs. The series focuses on the Transformers' past on Cybertron before they came to Earth. The series consists of three six-issue mini-series: Volume 1, Volume 2 (''"The Dark Ages"'') and Volume 3 (''"The Age of Wrath"''). ''The Age of Wrath'' ran only for 3 issues due to Dreamwave's bankruptcy. Story and background Volume One Plot The plot revolves around the inception of an archivist named Optronix as leader of the Autobots after the death of their previous leader, Sentinel Prime, at the hands of Megatron. Dreamwave Productions
Dreamwave Productions was a Canadian art design studio and comic book publisher founded in 1996. Best known for its comic book adaptations of Transformers, the company shut down on January 4, 2005. History Brothers Pat Lee and Roger Lee founded Dreamwave Productions in Toronto, Canada in 1996 as an imprint under Image Comics, publishing their first mini-series ''Darkminds''. Pat maintained artistic control while Roger managed the business operations. Dreamwave split off from Image Comics in April 2002. Dreamwave acquired the license for the ''Transformers'' toyline from Hasbro in December 2001. ''The Transformers'' is an American animated television series that originally aired from September 17, 1984, to November 11, 1987, in syndication based upon Hasbro's ''Transformers'' toy line. The first television series in the ''Transformers'' franchise, it depicts a war among giant robots that can transform into vehicles and other objects. The series was produced by Marvel Productions and Sunbow Productions in association with Japanese studio Toei Animation for first-run syndication. Toei co-produced the show and was the main animation studio for the first two seasons. In the third season, Toei's involvement with the production team was reduced and the animation services were shared with the South Korean studio AKOM. Transformers Comics
There have been three main publishers of the comic book series bearing the name ''Transformers'' based on the Transformers (toy line), toy lines of the same name. The first series was produced by Marvel Comics from 1984 to 1991, which ran for 80 issues and produced four Spin-off (media), spin-off miniseries. This was followed by a second volume titled ''Transformers: Generation 2'', which ran for 12 issues starting in 1993. The second major series was produced by Dreamwave Productions from 2002 to 2004 with multiple limited series as well, and within multiple story continuities, until the company became bankrupt in 2005. The third and fourth series have been published by IDW Publishing with the third series starting with an issue #0 in October 2005 and a regular series starting in January 2006 to November 2018. Ultra Magnus is a fictional character from the various ''Transformers'' storylines in the Transformers franchise, generally appearing as a chief lieutenant of Optimus Prime. Transformers: Generation 1 Despite his incredible fighting skills, courage, and unmatched talent for improvisation on the battlefield, Ultra Magnus is not portrayed as a natural leader, and displayed discomfort if the Autobot Matrix of Leadership should ever find itself placed upon him. Grimlock
Grimlock is the name of several fictional robot characters in the Transformers robot franchise. He is usually portrayed as the leader of the Dinobots, a subfaction of Autobots who can transform into metal dinosaurs. Grimlock was known for his dialogue being spoken in the third person. In 2007, ''USA Today'' polled people as to which Transformer they want to appear in the second installment in the ''Transformers'' film series; Grimlock came in tied for second with Devastator, and he appeared in the film instead of Grimlock.
