Meitei Cinema
The Cinema of Manipur is the film industry based in Manipur, India. It includes not only Meitei language movies but all the films made in different languages of the different communities in Manipur. The Manipuri film industry was born when ''Matamgi Manipur'' was released on 9 April 1972. Before this, there were many attempts to make a film in the state, the most significant being ''Mainu Pemcha'' in 1948 which was left incomplete due to various problems. The tradition of documentary film making in Manipur was said to have been pioneered by the late Maharaj Kumar Priya Brata Singh who shot "actuality movies" with his 8 mm camera in 1936. Irom Chanu Sharmila
Irom Chanu Sharmila (born 14 March 1972), also known as the "Iron Lady of Manipur" or "Mengoubi" ("the fair one") is an Indian civil rights activist, political activist, and poet from the Indian state of Manipur, which is located on the north-eastern side of India. On 5 November 2000, she began a hunger strike in favour of abolishing the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 that applies to the seven states and grants Indian armed forces the power to search properties without a warrant, and to arrest people, and to use deadly force if there is "reasonable suspicion" that a person is acting against the state. Khumukcham Sanjita Chanu
Khumukcham Sanjita Chanu (born 2 January 1994) is an Indian weightlifter. Born in Kakching Khunou, Kakching district, Manipur, she is a two time Commonwealth Games Champion. Chanu won the gold medals at the 2014 Glasgow and the 2018 Gold Coast events in the women's 48 kg and 53 kg weight category respectively. Renu Bala Chanu
Yumnam Renu Bala Chanu (born 2 October 1986) is an Indian weightlifter, hailing from Kyamgei Mayai Leikai village located near Imphal, Manipur. She secured a gold medal in the Women's 58 kg category at the 2006 Commonwealth Games. Career Renu Bala's career kicked off when she was selected for training during a 'talent hunt' camp of Sports Authority of India, at Imphal in the year 2000, when after winning a silver in the state championship, she was recommended to the SAI. Saikhom Mirabai Chanu ( Meitei pronunciation: /sái.kʰom mi.ra.bái cə.nu/; born 8 August, 1994) is an Indian weightlifter. 27-year-old Mirabai Chanu lifted a total of 201 kg to win the Gold Medal which was also India's third medal after at the ongoing CWG 2022.
