In most telecommunications organizations, a virtual channel is a method of remapping the ''program number'' as used in H.222 Program Association Tables and Program Mapping Tables to a channel number that can be entered via digits on a receiver's remote control. Often, "virtual channels" are implemented in digital television, helping users to find a desired channel easily, or easing the transition from analogue to digital broadcasting in general. The practice of assigning virtual channels is most common in those parts of the world where TV stations were colloquially named after the RF channel they were transmitting on ("Channel 6 Springfield"), as it was common in North America during the analogue TV era. CHLT-DT, virtual and VHF digital channel 7, is a TVA owned-and-operated television station licensed to Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada. The station is owned by the Groupe TVA subsidiary of Quebecor Media. CHLT-DT's studios are located on Rue King Ouest (near Route 112) in Sherbrooke, and its transmitter is located in Orford. This station can also be seen on Vidéotron channel 4 and in high definition on digital channel 604. History The station went on the air for the first time on August 12, 1956. It was owned by ''La Tribune'', the city's major newspaper, along with CHLT radio. Like most television stations in Quebec, it was a dual affiliate of both CBC and Radio-Canada. CIII-DT (channel 41) is a television station in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, serving as the flagship station of the Global Television Network. Owned and operated by network parent Corus Entertainment, CIII-DT maintains studios at 81 Barber Greene Road (near Leslie Street) in the Don Mills district of Toronto, and its transmitter is located atop the CN Tower in downtown Toronto. CISA-DT (channel 7) is a television station in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, part of the Global Television Network. Owned and operated by network parent Corus Entertainment, the station maintains studios inside the Royal Bank building at the corner of 7 Street South and 4 Avenue South in Downtown Lethbridge, and its transmitter is located near Highway 25 and Range Road 221, just outside the city. The station carries the full Global network schedule, and its programming is similar to sister station CICT-DT in Calgary. It is the smallest station in the Global network (formerly second to the defunct Shaw-owned affiliate CJBN-TV in Kenora, Ontario) and is the only standalone commercial station in Southern Alberta. CKRT-DT, virtual and VHF digital channel 7, was an Ici Radio-Canada Télé- affiliated station licensed to Rivière-du-Loup, Quebec, Canada. Owned by the Simard family and their company, Télé Inter-Rives, it was sister to Noovo affiliate CFTF-DT and TVA affiliate CIMT-DT. This arrangement made the station part of a so-called " triple-stick"—three stations owned by a single company. The three stations shared studios on Rue de la Chute and Rue Frontenac in Rivière-du-Loup; CKRT-DT's transmitter was located near Chemin du Mont Bleu in Picard. CKRT went off the air for the last time on August 31, 2021; it was the last remaining privately-owned Radio-Canada affiliate.
