Alabama Chanin
Natalie "Alabama" Chanin is an American fashion designer from Florence, Alabama. From 1976 until its closure in 2005, Tee-Jays Manufacturing was one of the largest employers of the Florence textile industry. Chanin's business now operates as a clothing manufacturer on the grounds of the former Tee-Jays company. She is part of the zero-waste fashion movement. Her design company uses organic cotton fabric in their designs, which is said to be sourced sustainably from seed to fabric. Chanin's " open source" philosophy means that patterns and techniques for some of her garments are openly available through books and workshops. Early life and education Natalie "Alabama" Chanin was born and raised in Florence, Alabama. At the age of ten, she and her mom moved to Chattanooga. She has a degree in Environmental Design with a focus on industrial and craft-based textiles from North Carolina State University.

Irwin Chanin
Irwin Salmon Chanin (October 29, 1891 – February 24, 1988) was an American architect and real estate developer, best known for designing several Art Deco towers and Broadway theaters. Biography Irwin Chanin was born to a Jewish family, the son of an immigrant from Poland and an immigrant from Poltava, Ukraine. In 1915, he graduated from Cooper Union with a degree in civil engineering. At Cooper Union he was noted as a founder of Alpha Mu Sigma, a fraternity for Jewish men. In 1919, Chanin and his brother Henry founded the Chanin Construction Company. In 1925, they built the 46th Street (now Richard Rodgers) Theatre, the first of six theaters they built on Broadway. This was followed by the Biltmore (Samuel J. Friedman), Majestic, Mansfield (Brooks Atkinson, Lena Horne), Masque (Golden), and Royale (Bernard B. Jacobs). Jim Chanin
James B. Chanin (born April 16, 1947) is an American civil rights attorney, based in Oakland, California. Chanin has been an attorney since 1978, and is best known for his representation of victims in the “Oakland Riders” case, and as one of the two plaintiffs’ attorneys in the Riders Negotiated Settlement Agreement (NSA). Although best known for his cases involving police misconduct, Chanin has also represented police officers and other police department employees. Early life and education Chanin was born in Harrison, New York. He attended public schools in Harrison and graduated from high school in June, 1965. After two years at George Washington University, he transferred to the University of California, Berkeley. He received three degrees at UC Berkeley: a BA in 1969, and MA in 1971, and a Ph.C in 1973. Marie-Lise Chanin (Marie-Lise, Paule, Andrée Lory; born on 26 September 1934 in Angers), is a French geophysicist, aeronomist, director of research emerita at the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), and author of works on the physics of the upper and middle atmosphere.
